WARNING: It’s Over in Seconds
It seems that just about everyone has some type of website these days. People have different objectives such as services, content-driven, entertainment, personal, selling products and much more. Regardless what your website is designed to carry out the primary objective is get users coming and to continue revisiting.
EDGE
You’re not the only one on the net and in fact there are millions more out there just like you all competing for traffic, what’s your edge. It only takes a few seconds for visitors to view your site make their decision and then click the back button never to return again. In those few seconds your site needs to communicate exactly what you provide, why they should stay and visit again.
STICKY
A lot sites do a fairly good job of attracting visitors including this site but many of the visitors take a look at the site and then leave with in seconds.
Sticky content refers to content published on a website, which has the purpose of getting a user to return to that particular website. Webmasters use this method to build up a community of returning visitors to a website. defined Wikipedia
The immediate factor is what you should be looking to achieve. What value are you providing that can be seen right away within seconds of a new visit. More or less where’s the proof visitors today are skeptical, judgmental and quick to kick your site to the curb without a moments notice if they do not see any value.
POWER
Using the power of content serves your visitors as well as the search engines. A method is to build a substantial amount of content all about your (edge) topic. This way when a visitor hits your landing page they will have a ton of resources to choose from on your topic fulfilling all their needs and at the same time establishing reader trust.
Google uses a complicated algorithms to evaluate the value of different websites and one the largest factors the formula uses is the power of site content. The more edge and loads of quality content the higher ranked you will achieve within your area of expertise.
WARNING: it’s over in seconds for millions of websites out there on the net. But each one of those websites can start achieving better results by incorporating more edge, power and stickiness. All three just basic common sense but when used effectively the benefits will start to show from search engines as well as increased readership.

I like to read posts like this, they keep reminding me what’s it all about. People tend to grab links and PR like it’s all about that, but when they get traffic in – it goes out in seconds, just like you said it.
Content is the key, then the visitors are there to stay and bring organic linking. But it all takes time, that’s why 90% of people give up on their website. Well, more place for me and other people who bring value.
Hey, got that PR back up to 5/10 I see.
Was not aware it fell below 5?
Yes content and initial appearance that gives a non cluttered view makes all the difference. The simpler it is the more elegant and pleasing to the eye and the visitor tends to spend more time on the content.
Whose PR you are talking about Digital nomad, and hey your name links to some weird website, I think you misspelled blogspot as blogdpot – probably Jason would help you to fix this.
URL Fixed
Oh, I think I meant it was something to do with Technorati rank. Sorry.
to find that secret of user ’staying power’ well its very much trial and error
no one fixed solution, varies per niche
i guess if you’ve the means to give the needs of many, you’ll do fine
Excellent tips to follow. I honestly need to work a lot on all three of these areas to improve my websites.
