The Mentor – Think Before You Open Your Mouth

I am addressing this today because it has come up on more than one occasion that I am a copy, diehard fan, and John is even my idol.  So today I will set the record straight in regards to John Chow and how I view him and his blog.  John Chow is a mentor of blogging and that is it nothing more and nothing less.

Mentor defined a person who provides guidance and recommendations to a more junior person for courses of action and behavior.

Since people continue to say these sort of things I feel it is necessary to have a lesson on the rules to becoming successful in life.  I started this personal blog and I intend to make it as successful as I can “No limitations Just You and Your Keyboard” Just as my quote states I have know intentions of becoming a failure and blogging without a successful objective.

“Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing.” - Albert Einstein

What do smart people do? Do they figure out everything on their own? No, they learn from other successful people and add to their knowledge, those improving themselves and their level of success. When I started this blog in February the ratings were in the millions and now my Alexa Rating Today: 123,949 week 499,003 month and Technorati Rating Today: 61,383 (942 links from 64 blogs)and I owe this to the mentors of the net not just one man with a successful blog site.

Since starting my site I have been to many blog sites on the net through my Google searches not just John Chow’s site.  I know everyone has heard never judge a book by its cover and that is what people are doing just because I used the Misty 3.1 layout which has been downloaded over 30,000 times, including John Chow himself. Maybe you say but you also have a sports car on your header, just like him.  The Ferrari header was a recommendation by a reader and was put into to place a month after I started my site and it’s not just a picture of a car because I’m sitting in it and that adds an additional personal touch to my site which he does not have.

“If A is a success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut.”  - Albert Einstein

Remember I am who I am and this is a personal blog not a copy of his we just happen to use the same layout and from time to time yes I will use his ideas if they prove to be successful because any smart person would do the same. Almost forgot have I missed something but have people forgotten that this is a personal blog so even if the themes are the same the people are not!

Don’t worry about what people say. Stick to what you do if it brings result.
The most important thing is you’re not cheating anyone.

I wish you all the very best of luck. You’ve done a great job so far. I can picture your success right now.

Go on man! Success doesn’t come to you .. you’ve got to get to it.

Eric Clapton was praised for his sense of interpretation of Robert Johnson work. He did the same thing.

I’ll be honest, the first thing I thought when I got to your blog was that it was as close to an exact match to John Chow’s as you could get. After I started reading your posts, I soon realized, my first impression was wrong. Congratulations on the successful site. Soon, the new blogs that come up with the Misty layout will be said to be copying yours. :-)

You win some you lose some but not to worry I’m not quitting over a few negative reviews or even a million. Anyway like they say there is know such thing as bad publicity.

I had wanted to use the same layout as John Chow, but I did not want people to think I was copying him so I settled on something different. Much respect to you for not putting up with what others may think! Inspiring!

Well it does have the copying draw backs but it is worth it in my opinon because it is a proven template because of the over 36,000 downloads record.

So I guess that means 36000 people are copying each other and if those people do not want duplicate templates then they should have thought of buying one with rights to them only and not using a free template such as the Misty 3.1 Wordpress.
