Popularity Equals Optimization – PEO
Over the past four months, I have had an excellent adventure developing sources and my blog business. It has been great monitoring this blogs success rate and sharing everything I have learned along the way. Today I’ve decided to share an optimization point of view that believe or not we all learned as children.
For those of us that are out of school remember back and if you are in school just look around and point out the popular kid(s). Were you popular? It doesn’t matter maybe you were or maybe you weren’t but you understand the meaning behind being popular.
A lesson learned very early that carries on through all aspects of life and it’s even relevant for blogging success. Simply put popularity equals optimization (PEO) on the net.
- Friends – seek out popular friends (sites) and you will soon start to realize a state of PEO. You must also portray popularity qualities to ensure that you are building your network of readers (friends)
- Nice Clothes– Your site must be dressed in best designer template/custom that carters to the look, content and usability that everyone loves and desires to have.
- Popular / Unpopular– Google looks at your site and calculates the incoming links and how popular those links are. Basically if you are not popular the other popular sites will not link to you and then Google will give you a PageRank that resembles your unpopularity amongst others. In order to achieve PEO you must prove yourself with nice clothes and content.
- PEO – Popularity Equals Optimization defined; the process of improving your site to cater to the popular online world by using all means necessary to include; quality content, site design, marketing, directory submitting, news services, press releases, link exchanges, contest, daily updating, social networking, and guest writing to enter their world of online popularity optimization.
You can read as many search engine optimization articles and books you like but I assure you with out PEO you will never reach the highest state of SEO. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) defined; is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results.

That’s a great way of looking at it. All Google is trying to do is measure human behavior, so behave like a human.
I agree, a web site design will tell a lot about it. That’s why I keep it as modern as I can with my designer skills…
Simple, logicla stuff here. And, it is so true. The concept of popularity is mega important to the typical advertiser.
The simple facts of life – people like you or they don’t. Success = Popular and Popular = Success.
This is all true, but you can still game the system. The interwebs will always be a place for certain marketers to try and cut corners, game the system, and write an ebook (or a CD collection, or online course) to show step-by-step how they were successful.
I think it is like anything else…there will be new search engines that will define the term “search’, and therefore the process of ranking, and then popularity, and therefore it will redefine optimization techniques.
It is a very fluid process. Once everyone believes they have it figured out, the rules will change again.
It is a never ending process, is nothing new, and is just part of human nature.
