Our Google Authority Listing
In January 2008, Google dropped our PageRank from a PR5 to a PR4 for selling links but just today I noticed that we have been given an “authority listing” by Google for JaKel Daily. Is it a huge deal to have Google acknowledge that I’m the authority for information about ‘Ja Kel Daily’? To be honest I’m not sure – but I guess it’s better than not having an authority at all.
Similar to an “indented listing” (see below), an “authority listing” is a site which has received a significant of natural backlinks, total number of daily searches, and high quality linkback “authority” from other high PR sites, over a long period of time. Many of you already know that JKD started with fashion and celebrity blogging in February 2006 then following the Geektalk section in February 2007.

Nice one, thats a cool little milestone to reach I think, shows google thinks good of the site.
I’d say it is a big deal in so far as you need quality backlinks from high PR sites to earn the “authority” tag. Will be interesting to see how/if your traffic increases as a result.

Congratulations, I wouldn’t mind to much that your PR dropped I am sure it will not effect your revenue. But it is unfortunate that it did drop.

the PR thing already a hotly debated topic. and google always penalises a lot of sites for some reason or the other. so the “authority listing” should come as a respite.

Gratz on the authority, authority is authority. Every one wants it! As for the pr drop, there’s not much you can do about that. Just keep doing what you’re doing and it should start to rise again.

I hear a lot of sites have recently gotten that authority listing. I have been to quite a few blogs that are talking about it so unfortunately I don’t thing it is much of a big deal. My blog got it too.
If you are an authority site, that is very good. You should see ranking increases because of that.

PR update for us yesterday. Our homepage stayed the same but I did receive a little increase on the inner pages.
Check out the ‘Sitelinks’ section of the Google Webmaster Tools and you can somewhat control the sitelinks for your site.
I noticed the PR update too, very nice indeed!
I managed to get a PR2 in this most recent update. I know that page rank actually means nothing unless you decide to sell links or give a monetary value to your site, but it is definitely pleasing to see that the hard work you are putting in is actually doing something.

I’m afraid I cant agree that. AFAIK the value of PR is determined by the backlinks to your site, and the backlinks is actually 1 of the main factors for SE ranking. Having a higher PR shows that you’v done a good job in liking, and thus it may help in ranking. (of course I didn’t mean higher PR = higher ranking, there are still many other factors like content, domain age etc…)

Google is very mysterious. About there PR strategy. Know one really knows how they maintain it.

It seems to me that Google is a little random about the site links. I have it on some sites and not others. Some of the sites that have it I don’t feel are that worthy. Anyway, I suppose at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter that much.

That’s just sitelinks. Traffic is the important thing here PR is just a result not a predicate. Still I’d like to know what’s the result of sitelinks on high traffic keywords. I’ve managed to take out the “authority” from a competing site but google never gave it to another(there are 4 sites rotating in the first 4 places for that high traffic keywords on hourly basis in my case)
Pretty much everybody I’ve heard from have had a drop in PR this time around – really makes you wonder what/how decides PR for google.
I don’t feel are that worthy. Anyway, I suppose at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter that much.

Congratulations. I am also trying to achieve this with one of my websites, but it doesn’t seem to work.
Page rank is a joke. I have pages with no PR ranked high on the first page of Google. Today we rank #2 and #3 for niche seo with 0 PR. So don’t sweat about PR it’s a waste of your energy.

Google normally ranks this website no.1 and no.2 in it’s listings and provides extra linkage to the site from it’s search engine results listings in Google as a reward for it being trusted as one of the best websites on the web associated with a particular term.
Google is dedicated towards its Page rank.

Keyword authority is always better than PR, its just that everyone likes to brag about their PR

That’s something to be proud of, not many people get authority listing. Keep the link building work up and you’ll begin seeing huge spikes in your traffic from google.

Congratulations! I’ve had my site get an authority link but until this post I actually didn’t know what it was. If you look in Google Webmaster Tools I believe you can actually edit to see what type of links you want displayed. For my myspace layout site I can for example set a link to the myspace codes page, myspace layouts page, or myspace graphics page. Best of luck and good job again!

Congrats there! I have some sites and blogs, all PR0. Really do not know what to do to get higher PR. Been reading and researching, no results. Heard the PR will be reviewed and change after every 3 months, hope I can get a PR1, I am more than happy.

Nice one dude – the best I’ve managed on any site is an indented listing i.e. 2 pages listed, one beneath the other.

Congratulations on getting a auhority listing by Google. Any form of acknowledgement is good especially form Google. Can you eloborate on what actually happened when your page rank was reduced for slling links? DId the traffic levels go down as a result or was it just a page rank drop. Gogole is known for harsh actions on websites that sell links so I think you are lcky that the damage was minimal. I could’nt even begin tio imagine what would happen to my business or websie if I were to ge banned form Google.
I have one photoblog demoted from PR4 to PR3 even with unchanged number of backlink. Traffic however is about the same.
I think I have the ultimate solution for you and stop you from tossing and turning at night.

Congrats mate! BTW about your PR being decrease maybe because your backlink also being decrease. For my site I used to put my link in dynamic website like forum, directory and blog. internal link in this website is change. Deeper the link from main page, make it hard to find by search engine.
yeah, sometimes pagerank is not important.
just trying to get many backlinks, and you will be number one in google.

Congrats. It does take some time, but once you receive your authority listing its a great feeling isn’t it? You really feel like your site is established, little things like that make me feel like its all worth it.

Just two things I feel it’s write commenting about …
a) Your PR drop from 5 to 4, could not necessarily be related to selling links, I see a lot of fluctuations on many sites.
b) Site-links are not necessarily an indicator of authority neither. All search engines are trying to create direct deep links, if they manage to make sense out of a website’s internal navigation.

This is impressive. Considering billions of online entities would kill just to be part of that listing.
So, is that really hard ranking when selling links? How you understand that google dropped your PR due to link selling? Any suggestion appreciated since i also doing that.

I want this for my blogs. Not only does it look good and help users access more than just your main page but it also acts as another ‘place’ below yours meaning competitors are even further down 
Your listing is enchanced and most advanced keep it up. It allows users to know more about a website and it also gives vital information.
Congratulations, you’ve achieved “authority listing”. So now its confirmed that even if your PR dropped a little it doesn’t mean Google think of your site as less authoritative or as such.
Many people have authority listings for their domain names. Now, having one for a competitive keyword is worthwhile. But its still a nice perk knowing that Google trusts your site.
