My First Blogging Book “Blogging Heroes”

Sixteen days six since my last post the longest time period since the start of my personal blog “geektalk” in February 2007. At the moment the family and I are in England again for a week visiting family.

Today at Bluewater I purchased my first blogging book “Blogging Heroes” by Michael A. Banks it cost me £13.99 but I checked later on at Amazon and the book has actually gone on sale for only $5.00. Yes I know I paid a lot more for it but it’s just one of those things you see something you want it and you buy it on the spot. I’m saving the book for our May holiday in Greece so you will have to wait until then for a review.

Why? Many of you have asked the question why so few posts lately. At the beginning of March I started my journey into PPC marketing which includes; starting a niche site, learning the in/outs of Affiliates, PPC, Adwords and Yahoo publisher.

What have I learned? No matter what e-programs are stating PPC marketing is hard and in my opinion it has a higher failure rate than blogging. At the moment I have set up my niche affiliate site armed it with fresh content, affiliates, Adsense and a Adword campaign that is presently only bringing in thirty visits per day.

On my previous article I posted some great PPC sites worth taking a looking at. If you plan to take on PPC any time soon my advice would be to stay focus and keep a long-term goal in mind.

Give my love to Jolly old England…It’s been a long time since my last visit and I miss my sister ( we came to the USA 30 years ago and make trips back) I am looking forward to your review and picking up some tips!

I know how you feel. I’m also in launch stage of my new site thus some of my blogs are not updated that much.

Anyway, may I suggest that your “niche” blog only use one income stream. People either click on ads or click and may buy the affiliate product. If they have many choices, you lower the overall CTR.

That’s right decision when you just want well-defined thing.
A the end of the day 14 pounds it’s a normal price for the worth book.

What a time to be in England. And Greece in May too! I envy you.

I did read all the PPC articles and believe that I am wiser for it! Yes, the focus is clearer now.

About the book. Not to worry too much. With packing and forwarding charges, it would not be all that cheaper.

It has been a long time how are things. Are we going to have to wait another month before we here from you again? With your jet setting and vacations I when will you find the time?

  6. Jason Neuman on March 25th, 2008

Yes I know it’s been a while the PPC has been taking up my free time that I usually use for this personal blog “geektalk” and since this part of the site is not the major earner I feel my extra time is better spent researching a new area on the net I have yet to explore.

Jet setting: England: now, Greece: May, Spain: September – I will post some pics afterwards. As for England we celebrated my daughters 5th b-day this weekend and we had planned to go to Cambridge Friday to meet with a possible job connection but that just fell through so thinking we will just do our usual and have a night out in London – I’ll take a few snap shots.

Most of the time, I will buy from Amazon. Sometimes, their price is pretty attractive when on sales.

  8. Stefanie on March 26th, 2008

Congratulations on taking the step towards PPC. In my experience, most people either fail miserably or take off once they get the hang of it. It’s way too expensive to be “kind of okay” at it for very long.

Hey congrats, you have taken the right step towards PPC. I think people either loose wretchedly or they succeed once they are off the way. It may be expensive but to succeed its a good way.

Good old sunny England, the place to be in March…..

I’m in Swindon in the South West of the Country. Not much goes on here but we do have a claim to fame in the shape of the “Magic Roundabout”. You’ll know it if you ever drive across it.

Amazon is actually quite a great place to purchase books. Some of the less known books are going for below $10

I am trying to start my own blog and I was wondering where you got your theme from? Also, is there a forum that I can visit to learn how to up load the theme. I have all the correct files.

What, no April Fool’s joke here? I’ve been making the rounds and it seems like half the blogs on the web have some kind of crazy April 1 post.

  32. Wags on April 2nd, 2008

I’ve been thinking about getting into the PPC game, but as you note, the failure rate is high and the cost of entry is expensive.

It isn’t easy putting money on the line when you can realistically expect that, at best, it will be a good learning experience.

Maybe I’ll check out that book, though finding concrete advice on these sorts of things is often difficult given all the variables.

  33. Wags on April 3rd, 2008

That’s odd. I would have expected that Google would consider those characters spam and filter them out.

I wonder what else could be done with this…

But I’m not going to be the one to try:)

Here’s how to be a blogging hero:

Tell big lies about how much you’re making with your sites until you get famous enough so it becomes true.

  36. Futon-Matt on April 3rd, 2008

Congrats, and good luck on the book.

  37. Eugene on April 3rd, 2008

If this book worth £13.99 from your point of view - don’t worry about “$5.00 on Amazon” :)

  38. PS3 on April 3rd, 2008

Yup, it was a sunk cost from the moment you got your wallet out!

The theme base is called “White Space” by Brian Gardner but I have been modifying it for a year now so this theme is custom now and not available for free anywhere on the net.

  41. Foto Sharing on April 4th, 2008

I am also trying affiliate marketing. I think best affiliate networks are industry giants such as Commission Junction or LinkShare, because they are most successful and experienced.

  42. Emirhan on April 10th, 2008

To be honest, I don’t think any book is going to be complete, not for a few more years - 2? 3? I don’t know. Certainly, there is the first generation of bloggers, who did this out of passion, sharpening a new tool, and some of them deserves a statue in the Bloggers’ Hall of Fame, if there ever will be one.

After the first wave, came the second line, of those who wanted to profit as much as possible from something that has been done before; some of them came with revolutionary ideas, too, but their importance is lesser.

A book on these heroes may want to focus on the personalities behind the scene, rather than on their paths to success. Because that’s what we want from heroes : their lives. Their recipe for success has been reworked since then, but their experiences are the same.

I’d love to hear your opinions on the book, the *subject* of this post :)
