MacBook Air World’s Thinnest Laptop

Finally, a Mac that has definitely gotten me tempted to make my first purchase! It starts at a mere $1799, more details and to pre-order at apple.com.

MacBook Air is nearly as thin as your index finger. Practically every detail that could be streamlined has been. Yet it still has a 13.3-inch widescreen LED display, full-size keyboard, and large multi-touch trackpad. It’s incomparably portable without the usual ultraportable screen and keyboard compromises.

Between 0.16 to 0.76 inch thin and weighing only 3.0 pounds, MacBook Air sets new standards for ultra-portable computing — without the usual ultra-portable compromises.

  • Intel Core 2 Duo processor
  • 2GB memory
  • 80GB 4200-rpm PATA hard drive1
  • Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi2 and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR

Its 13.3-inch widescreen LED backlit display delivers 1280-by-800 resolution which produces vibrant images and rich colors. The LED technology also conserves battery life.

I wish I could buy one of them. It seems a great product.

Crikey, I would be frightened of using that incase I snap it. Lol, it looks more like a dinner mat than a laptop.

I have to admit though, it does look pretty cool.

  3. Paul on January 28th, 2008

Do you currently use a mac now. My friend has one and I just don’t really like it. But i agree that this laptop is incredible and the first of its kind.

  4. Furniture Store on January 29th, 2008

I think it is terribly pretty. How user friendly is it i wonder, it seems sort of insubstantial.

  5. nickygreen on January 29th, 2008

    Lovely…

  6. Ankur Mittal on January 30th, 2008

The looks are good but what’s the use of macbook without an external drive like DVD writer or so

  7. Tarun Aggarwal on January 30th, 2008

From its picture itself, it looks quite attractive. I would also like to purchase one.

  8. Interwebhunt.com on January 30th, 2008

I love the new mac air, but it seems like it will break soooo easily.

  9. neil strauss on January 30th, 2008

  10. Georgia New Homes on January 30th, 2008

Wow—it’s so amazing what technology has come to. This product looks awesome, I’m going to have to check it out in real life just so I can see it for myself!!

  11. Kango Mom on January 30th, 2008

It is gorgeous–but I’d break it; I’m way too hard on my laptops!

However, if I had the dough, I’d buy one just to carry around with me to snooty coffee shops and look cool.

  14. Penny Stock Picks on January 31st, 2008

That is a must buy product and it is just unbelievable that a big computer (monitor, ups, keyboard , cpu ) has become almost a magazine, you can carry it anywhere…what will be the future ????????/

well eventually they re just gonna put a chip in your brain and then you can sit in like an isolated pod and never have to leave or have actual real interaction with ppl.

You can purchase an external drive as an option but with the wireless tech feature it comes with you can connect to any drive within the area just put a CD in a desktop and use the remote wireless install feature that the MacBook Air comes with.

As for the DVD drive - have you heard of downloading movies via the net and also movie rental stores are starting to rent out thumb drives with movies on them.

It’s a give/take world and if you want something smaller then you must be willing to accept change and just go with it and if not you can continue on and drag around your 50 lb notebook on your business/leisure trips.

I love the new MacBook Air it’s a great add to their product range!

I love the commercial where they pull a Macbook Air out of post envelope. I think it will be easy to misplace that laptop because of its small size.

And here’s the song from the Macbook Air commercial, if anyone else likes it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBCfW9-hjKI

  20. Jason Neuman on February 3rd, 2008

Yeah I saw it last night for the first time on tv but I had watched it prior on the mac site.

  21. Radiant Floor Heat on February 4th, 2008

  24. Paul on February 4th, 2008

I prefer PC over Mac because I guess the familiarity. I took a look at the commercial and was shocked. Mac is so innovative! iphone now this. When will it stop. My guess is never!!!!

  25. Rice Blogger on February 5th, 2008

It is great. Apple will always get the wow factor

  26. Patrick Burt on February 6th, 2008

I heard that you aren’t able to switch the batteries. That’s definitely a large setback../..

  27. Paul on February 6th, 2008

Look what the new MacBook Air is doing to other laptops! Unbelievable, I guess this is how women feel.

I know the eeePC has a small keyboard and what not - but the only reason I’d consider buying the air is for travel and when I am traveling I really don’t need the full size keyboard.

The price difference between the two has got me feeling that the air aint worth it.

It sounds like it’s sleeting, but every time I turn on the outside light & look, nothings happening.

  32. Life is Colourful on February 16th, 2008

Oh Yeah, I just read about it recently… Damn, it will be like 96 grands in Indian currency. Almost equal to what Fujitsu laptops are for. But worth a buy obviously.

  33. MacBook Air on February 17th, 2008

I’m expecting to buy my MacBook air in two months time, i can’t wait to use it on the living room sofa instead of sitting at your desk.

  34. web design on February 22nd, 2008

It looks cool but nothing much inside… unfortunately

  35. Gadgets4nowt on February 22nd, 2008

“It looks cool but nothing much inside”

A bit like Paris Hilton then?

I can already sit in my living room typing this on my Latitude D600. It is light and portable yet contains a DVRW. Admittedly the MacBook Air looks better, but is that a good enough reason to pay so much ?

  36. POYTSPOT on February 24th, 2008

World thinnest laptop… come to think of it im guy rough guy… :D

  37. Paul on March 7th, 2008

Mac book air is the best!

  38. Kentucky Derby Handicapping on March 13th, 2008

NO DVD drive?… and a small solid state HD, I’m not buying it.

  39. Free-hdtvs on March 14th, 2008

People are buying things far too often for what they look like rather than the content. I cannot justify spending that much money just because its super thin! Love the advert, not the product!

  40. Stefanie on March 26th, 2008

I just can’t get excited about this one. I have a fairly small laptop (12.1″ screen), but I love that it’s just a little bit thick. It doesn’t feel like I’m going to break it if I hold it up with a single hand.

  41. Total MacBook on April 27th, 2008

Did you ever get the Air? It’s not something I could ever use as a primary machine due to the lack of features but I could see it being an attractive secondary laptop.

  42. POYTSPOT on May 1st, 2008

MacBook Air in Philippines cost about PHP100k it’s around $2.3k

  43. Middle Rain on May 1st, 2008
