Just Another Day Blogging from Romania
Some work colleagues and I decided to have some beer and pizza after work today at a local place here in Romania close to work. The currency here is Lei and $1 equals 2.32 Lei.
The Stella beer you see in front of me in the pic below cost 5 Lei which is around $2.15 for a 50cl (double size) bottle of Belgium beer and the pizza cost us 10 Lei which feed all three of us.
Here’s a few pics on the way to the pizzeria and a shot of some northeast Romania transportation:

Remember the movie Borat?
The film’s opening sequence showing Borat’s hometown in Kazakhstan is shot in Glod Romania, 85 miles northwest of Bucharest.
Well the day before we drove through a town called Caugagia, Romania around 130 miles Northeast of Bucharest and it’s true I’d say around 75% of this areas transportation is by horse and cart.

I could have sworn the last time I went to Romania (granted this was years ago) it was something like 200 lei per dollar? I thought I changed like 100 bucks and was a “millionaire”… I guess I could be wrong though.
Did your pizza come with egg on it? We had quite a shock the first time we ordered due to the layer of egg. Personally I liked it.
Anyway, I’m quite jealous of being in Romania, post as many pics as often as you can!
No I am sure that is the current exchange rate and no egg on the pizza either; pepper, olives, bacon, and sausage an excellent pizza the best I’ve had in a while.
I changed $50 dollars and received 113 lei and some change back.

So Romania isn’t that bad. Boy I am sure missing Europe, the beer, the cooler weather, the beer, the relaxed atmosphere, and last but not least the beer!! Hope you make the best out of your trip (it looks like you are).

This is pretty good bargain. But still I feel, we get it better here – $1.5 for a 650 ml beer bottle and $0.90 for the size of one what you are drinking.
Normally the alcohol %age in beer here is 14% in strong beer and 5% in mild beer. I prefer strong.
Well a 50cl is equal to 500ml: When comparing beer prices you have to compare similar quality. If you wanted a $0.90 or even cheaper price beer here it’s available but you get what you pay for.
Places I’ve drank a Stella Artois beer:
5 Lei – $2.15 Romania
7 Sterling – $14.00 United Kingdom
6.5 Euros – $9.00 Belgium
$13.00 United States
That’s not expensive at all for Stella. Man I’m craving one right now. Great pictures and commentary. I wish I was in Europe right now.
I ate at a place the other day here in Birmingham, AL called The Cheesecake Factory and had a Stella with my meal. told the wait staff if they wanted a real good Belgium beer to get some Chimay!
wooa you are making a lot of travel….hiks.. are there any nice beer?
