How to Make Money from Blog Posts

Whether you are an experienced blogger or new looking to attract interest in your blog post there are few things you definitely can not afford to miss! Losing potential readers to competitor blogs and wasting your time on ineffective articles.

Regrettably, this is something that continues to take place everyday. So why is it some articles do well while others fail? Some may say it’s due to their lack of knowledge of editing.  When in fact what successful blog editors do is follow a strategic plan of writing effective articles the pre sell the advertisement (affiliate).

There are many important aspects that go into producing an effective blog post. Before you begin writing any pre sell article take a few minutes to ask you’re the following questions:

  • Is the article targeted to the reader?
  • Does the article have a unique factor?
  • Is there a motivation (urgency) incentive?
  • How does article compare to competitors?
  • Does it generate curiosity?

In order for your article to be effective it must be more than just creative.  Think of reasons why you would buy (or did buy) this product/service and start listing those reasons. When listing these reasons for purchase what you are doing is adding more value to the Why factor, it serves as the driving force behind the readers response.

Headlines
One of the most important essentials in creating an effective article whether it is for selling or just informative.  The headline is sometimes referred to as the voice of the article. It pulls the reader into the article (get to readers to keep reading): “Get 120 Back Links in 24 Hours!” Rather than using: “Blog Network Get Backlinks”

Keywords
Consider these keywords when writing your headline: How, Get, Do, Why, Save, Fast, Limited, Guaranteed, and Now.  Those keywords are just a few that work well in headlines and just keep your eyes open for the next time a headline grabs your attention!

Visual
There are no set rules of where images must be placed in your articles.  However, when selecting images (screen shots) relevant to display the product/service I recommend that they be placed at the top of the article or in the middle.  My experience (as well as others) shows placing images in articles will enhance your message as well as grab the reader’s attention into the article.
Body
Ok, you’ve accomplished getting the reader past the headline into the body of the article, the energy must continue throughout the post with each written word satisfying their every desire. Things to remember; keep words simple and to the point, make lists (bullets), offer benefits, testimonies, keep paragraphs short and avoid over writing.

Ask
Create a sense of urgency, but remember to give a valid reason as to why they should act now.  Remember people love deals/bargains! If a discount is available take advantage of it and let the readers know that there is an expiration date to the offer and it will not last.  Remember to ad details of how the service/product can be obtained and then ask the reader for the sale!

Yes, I agree with your points, but those are just standard tips, Jason. Everybody already knows about it. *I give a criticism to you this time.*

Oh my first comment is still under moderation :( where as comment on other post is published in fraction of moment - and why is that?

  3. Life is Colourful on July 18th, 2007

My observations about this post -
    1. You tried to elaborate the things point wise.
    2. It encourages readers to go till the end
    3. And you have an offer at right moment with limited time.
    4. Could the heading be “How not to let your visitors go away from your blog post :D”

I do remember the headline and keyword factor. I tried this with one of the articles on my blog to make it interesting, I changed the headline to “Why I look upon Warren Buffet” - which is true as well. [You can check the article here if you want http://lifeiscolorful.blogspot.com/2007/07/why-i-look-upon-warren-buffet.html.

And I believe this heading was more appropriate than “Interesting facts about Warren Buffet”.

Yes standard tips that make you money and give my site content that it did not have before on the topic.

    Jake,

    Good article, with good incite.

  6. Life is Colourful on July 19th, 2007

Oh right, I sort of realized that later, no issues! Will try to avoid any links in the comments if the message could be passed without link.

An interesting article - I definitely agree with your thoughts on adding images to posts. Many people commented that my blog was overly text heavy; I now add images to all of my articles and readers have already commented saying that it makes the content far easier and more inviting to read.

Somehow I missed to read this point which is very very useful to attract visitors.

I make it a point to add a relevant image (but not mandatory always) to the blog [you can check the link in my previous comment] and observed that visitors like to stumble upon such posts.

Jakel though seems to avoid over addition of images which is good for this type of blog but I think you have default restrictions due to embedded google adsense ads as well. Both Google ads and images will not go along, side by side [T&S restrictions] and the image may not look good at the bottom all time.

  9. Jason Neuman on July 19th, 2007

Yes only use images when needed to add a break in the body (long article) or help with visual aid for the aritcle to get your point across.

Very true having images and google ads is not a good idea unless the article is long enough to support both of them for space concerns.

Just noticed you have included a link on each post to wifey’s celebrity site. Smart move.

I still have never figured out how promoting the same name for two sites works for you.It looks like ti would confuse both audiences.

I only occasionally end up at the other site, if I am doing a search.

    Nice article Mr.Jake…..

There are a lot of sites that blog about different subjects - the only difference is that we have two layouts instead of the same layout for both.

I’m in a long thinking process of how to integrate both into one site and still have it work well.

I want to comment about the last subtopic from this pages. You talking about ask question on blog. On the topic you said make money from blog post. Ask question, I think is about to sell services or products. I means for my sales letter, i will write about sense of urgency. But in blog post, I will write about some information that people need to know.

So are you talking about blog post or sales letter? For me, I will write in 2 different way.

  14. Jason Neuman on July 20th, 2007

I’m talking about blog posts you can write about the needed information to make a sell from an article posted for affiliate or a service such as I mentioned in the article.

  15. Satria Anandita on July 20th, 2007

Jason, looks like you’ve made it into a new name, “Jake”.

  16. Satria Anandita on July 20th, 2007

I think we should write a controversial article when we attempt to make any selling articles. It is the best way to attract people.

  17. Jason Neuman on July 20th, 2007

Yes controvesial can be great for selling and also comments

I’ve started including a photo for each post, I think it helps for RSS readers because it can make your blog stand out. For each of my photos I use a polarize tool to make them different and nicer looking.

  20. Life is Colourful on July 24th, 2007

Hey April, could you please let me know about the tool you are using for photos, I do add photos for almost each post on my blog, and it shall help me as well.

I always try to write articles which may be of the interest of the general audience. Most of times, I think people like to read content where they can learn something new. For example, you can write about how to repair an electrical device at home. My next articles are moving in this direction.

Certainly a headline that attracted my attention: “How to Make Money from Blog Posts”. You have accomplished the first requirement. No matter what we are after in life, making money is always a well welcome endeavor and one’s ear ringer. The next component for an interesting and attention grabber article is the body, which should be filled with knowledgeable and useful information, next how the info is presented. Regards.
