How to Increase Your Page Rank

As a new webmaster of a new site (blog) there are several things you must do. First, and most importantly you must consistently update the site with fresh useful content.

Are you a page rank zero? Why? If you’re new I know you’ve asked me or other established sites how to increase your page rank.

Google Page Rank for a site is directly established in proportion to the number of links that point to it.  However, with that being said not all links are given the same weight. Google uses a complicated algorithm to determine and interpret the value of the link. The links are none as “Votes” that are analyzed and given weight with regards to the casting site’s importance (Page Rank). If you need more detailed information on how to increase your page rank go to Google’s technology page.

So why exactly do you want a Page Rank?

The simple idea behind Page Rank is that it gives importance to a particular page on the net based on the number of quality backlinks and then decides to send or not send traffic your way based off keyword searches. Listed below a few methods of how to increase your page rank:

Consistent Quality Content
Google loves great unique content and this will get you index much quicker especially if the articles contain strong keywords.  Do not confuse what I’ve just said because I’m not suggesting you write for Google/search engines and Page Rank. When writing your articles you should always write them the way you want to get your point across to readers and the Google indexing will come into play naturally.

Free Directory Submissions
Getting links from directories can have a tremendous effect on your PageRank since some are recognized as high authority (vote) sites.  There are few ways that you can go about this. You can pay people to submit your URL to select directories or you can submit yourself.

To submit to directories yourself I recommend a program called Directory Submitter Standard and it’s absolutely free unless you want to upgrade it for more directories. I’ve personally used the free version which allows you to submit to 350 directories and I found the process extremely easy.  Submit to over 2200 directories.

Review for BackLink
I started my review my blog 1st of March and since then I have completed 18 batches giving a total 180 backlinks from sites that reviewed my blog. As of the 17 batch I have discontinued the review for backlink.

Join Some Forums
Join forums that are relevant to your interest (post an article on how to increase your page rank), create a signature link using important keywords that are related to your site. Find topics that actually interest you, or areas where you can offer assistance. Post comments, without linking to your site, and rely on your signature link to do the rest. Note: some forums make you wait to add your signature link or have requirements in order to ad it.

Link Exchange
Search out relevant websites, though not in direct competition to your own site, and request a link exchange. Webmasters will usually link to sites they have genuinely found themselves and have an interest in. Just ask, you don’t get anything if you don’t ask.

Blog Commenting – Dofollow
The dofollow wagon started back in April.  What the dofollow plugin does is remove the nofollow tag off the commenting section allowing readers to receive a full credit linkback.  This is great news because this means that every comment you make on a dofollow blog will now count as a linkback to your site.

To get you started I have found a list of 170 + blogs that dofollow including mine! The draw back to this is it will be a time consuming endeavor because when you leave a comment you should be sincere and leave something relative (not a spam comment)

Blog Carnivals
Blog carnivals are regular posts which gather articles on a given topic, submitted by their authors. Here’s how to get a blog carnival up and running: Sign up for a free account with BlogCarnival.com

Offer Content – Guest Author
Start contacting webmasters of sites that manage similar sites as you. Offer unique guest post articles in exchange for a link or links to your website. If you can write well, then you shouldn’t find it too difficult to find an opportunity for guest author work.

Press Release Submissions
Press releases have been around for ever, and still are going strong online. A press release offers the opportunity to drive interested traffic to your site. PRLeap and PRWeb are among two of many that I recommend if you decide to give it a shot.

If you have any other suggestions/questions of how to increase your page rank just comment.

This is informative. I am particularly happy to learn as to why it is important to get a high page rank. I always thought that if the page is attractive and has regular traffic, that is enough! Thank you again.

  2. prank videos

Ok, great post. I could use the Directory Submitter Standard, but I fear that too many links too fast can cause a penalty from Google. That happened to me a year ago when I manually submitted one of my sites.

And thanks for the 170+ blog list, now I don’t have to use Google to find more of them :)

  3. Gerek Network

    I’ll try the blogcarnival tip

i’ve yet to try that. thanks!

but ultimately like you said, create great content. people worry about pagerank as they want to get better opportunity in eg paid reviews

well depends on the webmaster goal i guess

  4. Online Money

Nice informative post. I am looking forward for my page rank update.

  5. Paul Escobedo

I am new to blogs and definitely not a webmaster. I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes to get a page rank? My website has been running for 4months and 4 days. We do all of the suggested tips you give in this article and yet still have no page rank. Does anyone out there have any idea of how long it will take for my website to receive a page rank?

  6. Ventrilo

I have noticed much better results from do follow comments recently than I have in the past. I am starting to do much more of them. Not to mention it helps to grow the blog community

  7. san

i dont know if my site is on the top in the google listing.. or other web search engine ranking… :) because i dont care about it

  8. Jason Neuman

    Paul -

Quarterly (every 3 months) so if your PageRank did not increase you did not meet the qualifications Google is looking for (more likely quality backlinks) linking to your site. Google is getting more strict every quarter when accessing PR ratings for sites.

  9. HiFi Guy

Thanks for the tips Jason, i will try them because im having difficulties to increase mine

  10. Paul Escobedo

Thank you for the quick reply. I have been reading that ALL Search Engines are changing the pagerank (pr) critirea right now, more than they have ever done in the past. Do you know anything about this? Also, because we probably missed our first scan from Google would it be possible to jump from no (pr) to a (pr) of 2 or 3 on the next scan? Of cource if we blog, backlink, ect….

  11. SEO Blog

Some good tips there. Thank you.

  12. prank videos

Yes, Google is changing their criteria for PR constantly and soon ( but nobody knows exactly when ) newest algorithms will be brought into practice. All you can do is continue to work on your networking with quality content and link building, results will come in time.

Yes, its possible to jump from PR0 to PR3. I managed to jump from PR0 from PR4 with one of websites. But, stick to the content, trust me.

  13. Paul Escobedo

I assume you are refering to articles ect… “Original content” Thanks for taking time to answer my questions I really appriciate it and am glad I found this site. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

  14. Brandon Drury

You didn’t mention buying links. I consider buying links a fundamental part of the SEO process for any major terms.

  15. Chris

Great article. Had a lot of great ideas and information.

  16. Gerek Network

    Paul –

yeah my Pr went from 0 to 4 so it could mean it could jump

anyway everyone waiting for the PR eagerly now, its a long time coming

  17. Music Dictionary

There has been unusual silence! An extended vacation?

  18. Ultra Entertainment News

Thanks for the tips! I found the no follow links to be HUGELY interesting, this will help me greatly, thanks again!

  19. STR

    Woohooo …!

    Thanks for your extensive explanation!

  20. Meister

Hey thats a cool list of things to do. Too bad that it takes a lot of time to follow all your idea. I might try this submitting software but I especially like the Blog Carneval idea. I think bloggers should not be intrested in page rank that much but should rather try to provide a service that people really like.

  21. Chris

great – the Top Commentators it’s a well known method, and a very good one too…

the only condition is too leave really good comments, not stupid spam :|

    again – great article…

  22. JC Carvill

there are so many ways to increase page rank of any site, site must have related content, more links.it can be increased by directory submission.

  23. April

I’m trying out tnx.net for one of my sites. Supplemental is a nightmare, even getting natural links doesn’t guarantee escape from it. It’s not something I really want to do but “if you can’t beat ‘em – join ‘em”.

  24. Popcorn ninja

Amazing Post! Thanks for all the information you have provided, especially for noobs like me!

  25. Gerek Network

too bad you discontinued your review batches ja kel

i really wanted to do it … i think your PR is very good & high for a backlink

well however if you’re doing it again, i’ll be glad be first in line :)

  26. digitalnomad

It does seem easier to get a rank for a blog than for a static website. Maybe it’s because there are more opportunities to get links for a blog.

I see lots of websites that are supposedly making money that do not have PR, and I never have been able to figure that out.

I guess it boils down to the niche.

  27. Paul Escobedo

    Digital,
We do not have a PR yet but make money. The reason is because we have not been crawled ” i think” by Google. I am hoping that when we do finally get a PR it will be at least a 3! If anyone knows or has any information about this please let me know.

    Thank You

  28. Quality Deep Link Directory

Anyone else think PR is coming to an end?

  29. Mike C

Excellent post. I have done almost off of these except the blog carnival and the press release ones. I will hve to try those out.

  30. Mike C

I think PR is dying. Who knows though google doesnt seem to want to do their pagerank update.

  31. Devon Lohan Entertainment

The DoFollow thing is great….i’ve become a big fan of it. I haven’t hit directories yet for my blog, but if that will help my rankings then i’ll be doing that to build as well.

  32. Paul Escobedo

    Devon,
This “how to increase PR” is a great blog! Though we have not recieved a PR yet, we have seen an increase in traffic as well as ranking higher on key search terms. We blog on do-follow, submit press releases, SEO, submit to directories.
    Mike,
I was wondering why you think PR is dying? Also can you give me any information on why you think Google has not done their PR updates. Any and all information will help me thank you.
    I really enjoy this website!

  33. John Kain

Google has not updated its pagerank has it?

  34. Paul Escobedo

No it hasn’t. We are still patiently waiting for that also! You would think that a company with stock worth over $600 a share would be on top of things.

  35. John Kain

I know especially google which has had a pretty good track record you can expect it from microsoft or yahoo such a thing.

  36. Popcorn Ninja

Thanks for the information. This has been a very helpful post.

  37. Iman

Thank you for the information. I learnt this from you.

  38. Michael

    Great tips, very informational.

There’s so much one has to do to increase page rank. But as long as creating quality content is #1, you’re golden.

  39. stefano sandano

I think that you missed that the seo strategy must include submitting your site to the article directories, and there are around 1300 article directories out there.

  40. Jason Neuman

Maybe you have a reference to the 1300 article directiories not including digg, stumbleupon and other major directories?

  41. Patrick Burt

Is it worthwhile to mention to not buy or sell links? I’m hearing rumors of PR hits because of these.

  42. Paul from NewHomesSection

Yes, I have heard the same thing. I did some research inquiring the update and when was I going to get a PR? Once the update was done people were complaining that PR was dropping on some major websites because they sell links. Even though it is not in Google’s TOS they do mention that selling links is frowned upon. Now we now that it is more than frowned upon, it is punishable by lowering your PR.

  43. Lucky

Nice tips, i will try this all.

  44. AzGun

Good and really useful post for all readers and specially for me, thanks!
    ;)

  45. News Bandit

That is a very helpful post. I have one blog that has a PR4 but my others could use some work.

  46. Bong (JB)

    Hi!

Pretty useful tips. We will be trying out a few of them. Lots of thanks. :D

  47. Unkle

I can’t get GBL, MIP rank , my rank at GBL and MIP always is zero. But my GIP is 108 and PR is 1. how can I improve them?

  48. chay

This is a nice article, it is very helpful especially with new site owner. Many thanks

  49. Atlantic City Hotels Guy

I would have to agree with most of what you said, aside from the Free Directory Submissions. With the exception of a handful of free directories, most are going to give you a link that may not even get spidered.

I guess it may be worth it to find those couple of gems that give you that PR2 link, but it’s much better to just go for high PR relevant sites, whether that means a trade or through other means.

  50. allie

    Hi,
    Thanks for the great information.
I was wondering, do you have to type in your url in message box in order for the link to work in the dofollow blod technique? Or is the website address box above the way the spiders find your site? Does that make sense?

In other words, for the link to work to my site to increase my page rank to post it on your site.

  51. domeinregistratie

Sweet! Thanks for the tips. I’m currently trying to get higher PRs for a few of my sites… highest one I have is at PR4, hoping these tips help me out. Thanks for sharing!

  52. pokerto

i agree with your to do list, but why do you need pr today? in europe people think, that pr is very important for seo, but the interesting fact is, that the real successfull seo’s in the states don’t really care about this……..in the future google will freeze any page rank, because it will be senseless!

  53. Melbourne Mortgage Brokers

Thanks for posting that. I have been using googlebar for some weeks now and always wondered what the page rank thing was all about.

  54. soyncminnycab

    Hello!
Not much on my mind right now, but it is not important. I have just been letting everything happen without me. I just do not have anything to say right now.

  55. sriki

Thank you so much for giving a list of do follow coments site.My cur PR is 2 i’ll try to bring it up to 4.Once again thank u so much

  56. lalphyday

    Hello!
Google it’s more powerfull search engine in the world?

  57. ryan

    Hello!

I’m pretty new to making money with blogs and so I have just a few quick questions. First, what is the threshold for reaching PR1? I’ve searched EVERYWHERE but can’t seem to find anything on exactly how many or what kinds of links you need to get to PR1. Anyways, I just wanted to commend you guys for keeping this blog not too money-oriented; there are lots of blogs out there that are dedicated to JUST making money, and I personally think thats stupid. By keeping this blog focused on Entertainment and Tech News (as well as providing helpful articles like this one), you guys have set the standard for the kind of blog nooby webmasters like me wish to establish in the future.

    Thanks!

  58. Kyle@amateurassetallocator

Very useful! I have just recently started experimenting with carnivals and it seems to be relatively effective. I especially appreciate the review-for-backlinks and dofollow suggestions. Never even thought of that.

  59. Kyle

Excellent info. I never even thought of doing reviews for backlinks before. I would imagine that only works with blogs relevant to yours, though.

  60. PSP Go

Great information thanks for the tips. More topics like this are greatly appreciated.
