Google AdSense Referral Ads

Just yesterday I noticed new categories were available on AdSense referrals ads for selection and setup in my Google account. Since I was in the dark on this one I did some checking and the release to all publishers was 28 June and beta testing started back in March.

What is an AdSense referral ad? The ads work the same as the normal Google ads on a cost per click action with the exception of one thing if a person clicks the ad and then buys/downloads/signs up then you do not get paid for the click but instead you will be paid  per action/sale.

To get started with referral ads, click the AdSense Setup tab in you account and then click Referrals. There will be a list of products/categories (example screen shot below) and here you can choose one to the entire section of best performing ads to use as referral advertisements.

Get the Free Google Pack:

Get Fire Fox with Google Toolbar:

To select an entire category choose your ad format (all standard Google AdSense formats available including text links like the two I used above) in the upper right hand column and then click add category to cart then click continue.  Now just copy the code just like a normal AdSense Ad and place it were you would like it to show on your site.

One thing I did notice however was when testing the new referrals ads the customization for colors was not available but it was an easy fix just grab the color code from a normal AdSense Ad and then add it to the referral code. If you are just using a text link refferral ads no customization is needed it will use your default link color on your site (note: I noticed a max of two links will show in a post).

Good luck on making more money from Google!

    AdSense Referral Ads

If you have not log in to your account for a while, it is time you do there is another option to provide different types of ads on your websites, I have to thank Jason Neuman at for this post since for what ever reason I had missed.

Surprisingly, we did not get any notification from Google adsense which they normally send across on feature updations. Or Did we miss it?

  3. Jason Neuman on July 17th, 2007

Well I did not get any notification by email - I’m sure.

Jason, one thing I noted down to ask you and probably it might be obvious case but I want to confirm.

When we select these product categories [Let's say technical category] and we are shown the expected ads on the website while setting up the ads in google adsense, will other high paying ads take precedence over the “expected ads” being shown while ad set up.

I might not be interested in the ads shown by Google for that category, but do you still suggest to chose one to avoid low paying ads related to blogging, blogs etc.

AdSense Ads and Referral Ads do not work on the same code. The code is separate so therefore neither will interfere with one another.

AdSense Referral Ads doesn’t give significant income, does it?

  7. Life is Colourful on July 18th, 2007

I think Satria, Google adsense brought it into picture for more benefits to the publishers.

On normal CPC ads, you get paid for clicks but not for the action / sale happens later on, on the advertiser website.

But here, you would get paid for the commission generated due to action (CPA). And if no sale takes place, you still get paid for CPC like normal ads.

So it might shoot up your income at times if any action takes place. Just like shoemoney’s auctionads but here you get paid for the clicks as well.

I can not comment on this because I have only just started using referral ads with this post. No matter the amount of money made it all ads up in the end.

I noticed this when I logged in the other day but didn’t have the time to check the features out in full. I remember being unable to edit any of the anchor text - in my eyes this really does restrict the value of this feature for my needs.

Hey, you all friends. I have tested this and it’s working good for me. It’s very important that you select those products which would attract your visitors’ attention *very quickly*. Don’t go for the referral payout of the product [you may not even get a penny] but smaller referral fees but attractive product will give you volume benefit.
