Free dot Mobi Site Template
As you know from my prior post on January 1st I’ve recently join the dot mobi domain craze nearly a year and half after the initial release to the public. Since there is an estimated 2.2 billion mobile devices in use as of today I think it would be a good idea to get ahead of the game and get your mobile sites into testing and operation before your competition.
I’ve purchased http://www.jakeldaily.mobi and http://www.celebrity-gossip.mobi along with a few others I intend to squat on until I find some motivated buyers. Even now this late in the game there are still a lot of great dot mobi domains left to grab up for long term squatting and selling off when the rest of the tech world catches on and gets into mobi web surfing.
When I initially set up our dot mobi website I used the site builder from dotMobi. Since then I’ve designed a basic dot mobi site layout and then decided to make the template available free for downloand by interested readers.

Our dot mobi site here.
A working demo of the free template here.
Download the free mobi template here.
Installation: download mobi.rar file and upload entire contents into a folder called “mobi” that you create on your current hosting and then forward your dot mobi domain to the path of this folder. If you decide to get separate hosting for your dot mobi domain upload entire contents of mobi.rar file into the root folder “/”.
Money Note: If you are ineterested you can sign up for AdMob ads and then create a admob.php file so that you can start running targeted ads on your mobile site. My AdMob text ads are activated above “about” also there were not any requirements for site approval. Have a look at my dot mobi site to see the ads in action!

I still believe that you have done the right thing and one day soon, you will hit the jackpot. All the best.
Very neat idea, one thing worth noting is that “my” should be “may” in your example.
Thanks - I’ve made the correction
Also if anyone downloaded the template earlier today I’ve noticed an error and just corrected it.
I’m skeptical whether the mobi will catch on. But it never hurts to find out. If you’re wrong, well you’re out only a few bucks, if you’re right, you’ll make a lot more!
Good luck.
I haven’t heard about this .mobi thing. Is it more popular than .net? Either way I am excited to say that we just recieved a PR 5 on our website. The funny thing is that we wasted a lot of money on SEO and received nothing. Did our own diligance and have seen great results. I want to thank you for the contrabutions you’ve made. Thanks for always answering my questions.
The .mobi domain is not in competition with any other domain that has been brought out so far. The .mobi domain was brought about for mobile devices. All websites using the .mobi domain are to be designed for “cell” “mobile” phones.
In the future only .mobi addresses will be allowed on mobile devices. They have not passed the law yet but it’s in the works now.
So basically if you want your site to be viewed on the mobile network which has over 2.2 billion users as of now then you more than likely be required to have a .mobi address.
Like Chris, I am very unsure if .mobi will ever pick up. Surfing the internet on a cell phone is tedious at best and the small screen is such a pain, I don’t see it ever catching on. But hey, I’ve been wrong before. : )
Appreciate the follow up. Thanks
never thought of getting a mobi domain….i think it is better to have mobile.jakeldaily.com than jakeldaily.mobi
just my thoughts
If they pass the law that only .mobi domains are allowed on mobile devices then mobile.jakeldaily.com would be blocked.
Thanks for the heads up, I am definately buying a mobi domain.
I’m really hoping they don’t pass that law
it was very intersting,if mobi work proparly it can be achieve everyone.i wish to love everyone and make you famous in the world.
Lets see how the dot mobi domain catches on, no reason why it should not, meanwhile all the best to you.
Very cool - nice follow-up!! I ‘ve read your posts before…just never commented on them.
I’m usually pretty slow on technology. I’m quite happy with my current mobile which is about 5 years old. I suppose I should have a look to see what names are available…
still holding my breath to see how mobile surfing evolves
Very nice. But may be there is some spelling mistake.
Now a days peoples are used technology vesy easyly. This thinhs may be helpful.
Nice and useful followup.Thanx.
Thanks for the Post.
Very good idea. Appreciate the follow up. I will buy one
I see that a lot of companies have purchased .mobi and that huge fortune 500 companies have invested into this. T mobile,Samsung ,Ericsson to name a few. So I can see this have some value in the purchase of .mobi. But from the list I didn’t see apple or at&t and you can access .com’s just fine from the iphone.
The easiest way to explain is to say pick up your mobile and now my game is I want you to go to one of these companies mobile websites without first researching it on your PC.
ESPN
ABC
BBC
What you do not know what their mobile website address is? Well if they had a mobi domain you would know that it is there original domain at .mobi and you would already know that it is formatted to fit your mobile phone.
If you’re looking for their .com address for the formatted mobile website and you did not know it before hand how would you find it because their .com website does not load properly on your mobile?
The answer:
ABC News: http://wap.go.com/abcnews/
ESPN: http://proxy.espn.go.com/wireless/espn/
BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile
Then there is the ICANN possibility that only .mobi domains will be allowed on mobile devices in the future.
nice idea, lets see what happen…
Nice
Thanks for post! It’s really interesting for me
i will also buy one!
To follow up on one point in the chain above, there are no plans I’ve heard to make it a law that a mobile device **must** use a .mobi address. In all honestly, I’m not sure where you’d be able to draw the line between “What’s a mobile phone versus a very portable computer?” in a world with ever-more-savvy mobile devices coming to market daily.
The point of .mobi — unlike any “mobile.site.go.com”, “wap.site.com” , “site.com/m”, “site.com/mobile” or even “m.site.com” address formulation — is that a .mobi site is guaranteed to work on any mobile phone or with any carrier because of the enforceable, but open, standards of the .mobi domain. (The same ones as the W3C’s Mobile Web Initiative).
This also means that end users are guaranteed a positive experience when using .mobi sites because they won’t have long, expensive downloads and will have content relevant to the mobile users. (Think “Starbucks” as an example. On their PC site, you may be looking for jobs or for company information. On their mobile site, you might be looking for a Starbucks location or the calorie count of the new Frappucino flavor).
Currently, there are more than 80,000,000 .com / .net / .org sites but only 0.03% of those are likely to work on a mobile phone. The .mobi address simply tells you, “This site will work on a mobile phone.”
thanx for the template
Thanks for contributing the template. Looks good.
Just wanted to add also to your note about monetization. Have you tried running Google ads for mobile on your .mobi’s? This can be another monetization method for relevant ads. Another way is to simply park it with Sedo or a similar service which creates mobile parked sites with PPC ads.
So, what Vance is saying is that you can set up a mobile site on a .com if it is dedicated to work on portable devices.
Interesting concept though, there may be some tasty .mobi address to go grab before it gets too popular I guess.
HI,I’m trying to find a mobi template that works with BuildaNicheStore software.
Anybody have any idea?
Thanks
