DoFollow Promotion and Wordpress Plugin
I think is was around April that bloggers started jumping on the dofollow wagon for removing the nofollow tag off comments in order to give readers that comment a full backlink.
To be honest I had not given this much thought until yesterday when I came across a list of 170 + blogs created by CourtneyTuttle & GeekySpeaky that have already removed the nofollow tag.

After viewing the list it got me thinking that I should give in and remove the nofollow tag from my site also. The second thing that crossed my mind was to also use this list for promotion of my recent change and to get 170 + backlinks by visiting each site and commenting with something relative.
A time consuming endeavor commenting on every blog on the list but I guestimate that at least 20% will become readers after checking my site out from the comment, making it all worthwhile to me!
Wikipedia defined:
nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of spamdexing, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring in the first place.
In order to remove the nofollow tag I came across two plugins that can be installed and then activated:
- Semiologic: download here.
- Kimmo: download here.
I ended up installing the Semiologic plugin since I was unable to get the Kimmo page to resolve it must have been down at the time of trying to reach it. The Semiologic was simple to install just upload it to the plugins folder then go to dashboard and click activate – finished no configuration was need.

It seems everyone is doing the do-follow plugin these days. I’ve added it to my blog a couple weeks ago, but didn’t see any abnormally large jump in comments.
Thanks for clearing up what the no follow tag did. So once I install and activate Semiologic, it automatically removes the no follow tag??
That’s the way I understand it to work - nothing more just upload/install/activate.
I see you are already making your rounds…
I’ve been to your site before when it was being made fun of as being a John Chow copy cat over at Net Business Blog.
I’m thinking about going back to no-follow because the do-follow is beginning to be too much of a hassle. Good idea, bad results.

ive spent a lot of time commenting on do follow blogs. It has given us more links… thats about it lol
I commented on 30 today but to be honest I think I’m bored of it now and may not make it through the other 140 lol.
Hello,
After I joined the Do Follow Movement and saw that there is a D-List, I wanted to be on that list. But, from what I saw, the list hasn’t been updated for a while. So, I decided to keep the list updated myself.
You can find the updated version here: Do Follow List
Also, I wanted to ask if you want to join my list too.
Regards,
Nicusor
already install the dofollow plugin and spent sometime to give comments to other A-list blogger.
You’re now the first on the list!

Thank you
I think that this is a great idea. I have seen a lot of short term benefit from it, especially it has helped me to find a lot of good blogs that I would never have found and I have been influenced by a lot of them.
I first time saw this plugin on GotChance.com one of my contributed blogs.
It’s nice to see this, because otherwise commenting can be a waste of time. Now it benefits the blog, and the user! Thanks again.
Everyone that blogs should do this out of courtesy. If someone is taking the time to be involved in making good comments, then they should get a little reward.
Very true
I also have it installed and have been pretty much socializing just with people who also have it. I’ve also started to create posts where I link out to posts from other blogs I like. It’s a good way to get noticed plus I also get a backlink from the trackback. It’s a win-win situation.
Yes it’s a great way to get noticed. I talk about not being a recluse(by yourself) blogger on this post

Jason,
Did you stop at 40? I spent some time about 2-3 months ago hitting as many as I could using this the anchor text ‘pipe smoking’. Google dropped me some major love on the last update and I went from 10,000+ to bouncing between the first and second page
It’s really amazing what a few good links will do for you. Now I’ve got a couple of potential pipe stores who are pissed off that I’ve shot by them in the serps.
Yes Stopped at 40 - maybe will pick up again when I have a chance. Really busy at the moment with work so limited on time.
Almost forgot I really like your site layout and look.
To comment on 170 odd No Follow blogs is a tedious task. Yes, the rewards in return are great but it needs persistence.
Moreover to comment on those blogs, they need to have pretty interesting posts - leaving comments on lame posts is not my cup of tea! [I consider comments section as good way to interact with the blogger]
So many lame people are spamming the D-List for promotion and to get back links that many people have gone back to no-follow just to ward off the spammers….
Some spammers are not even using a name in the name field! They are using their website name or URL or trying to sneak in anchor text or keywords. That is so rude and inappropriate and I delete those rude comments immediately.
Then they say that doesn’t matter because their comment is *cough* relevant.
I have used Oliver Bockelmann’s Nofollow Case by Case plugin from day one on my blog. The beauty of this plugin is it allows you to reinstate the attribute for any sites or links you feel are spammy in nature.

Thanks for the info on the plugin will have to check into it.
We´ve installed a dofollow plug-in too. We decided we´ll take our chances with the spam.
I wasted lot of time by commenting on blogs with no-follow tag.But now i’ll try to find blogs with a do follow tag so that i cam bring up y PR.Thankz yar
Thanks for the info on the plugin will have to check into it. Bookmarked.
I remember my first time on this website. My friend and I were looking for something totally new, something we haven’t read or heard about. We were so tired of college, and didn’t have too much time to go out. And we found this site, and now we come ever day to read some cool information or to discuss something with other people. It’s interesting to hear different points of view!
Hi, I’m just stopping by to verify you’re still “dofollow” for my list. Thanks for still being dofollow.

I was concerned about going dofollow because of getting too much spam. I’ve found that using the Spam Karma plugin I only have to spend a few minutes per day on verifying comments. Spam Karma does a great job of flagging spam comments.
The internet is moving towards social communities and encouraging valid comments is good for community and relationship building.
it is a good way to build links , but keep in mind that you have to find out links from sites that are relative to your topic . a do follow blog on baseball may not help as much for your digital photography business website.
It seems everyone is doing the do-follow plugin these days. I’ve added it to my blog a couple weeks ago, but didn’t see any abnormally large jump in comments.
