Crashed After our Holiday
I’ve always heard that car crashes occur within a few minutes from home and I’ve always wondered just how true this statement is. So, here’s my story we returned home from Spain and my son (2 years old) and I crashed just three days following our return on Saturday at 12:45 on our way home from returning the movies and having a boy’s day out and guess what it was only two minutes from our house.
The short and long of the crash an older man failed to look before making a left turn onto a major highway blocking my vehicles path. We hit the front of his car, reaping the front of it off causing us to roll an estimated three-six times, hitting at light pole with the car ending upside down.
Hearing my son screaming in the backseat as the car was flipping down the road is the scariest thing that I have every gone through in my life. Once our car was at a complete stop I unlocked my seatbelt, slide back to my son that was still in his car seat and I unlocked him and then slide out the driver side window.
The crazy part out of all this!! Neither one of us had a signal injury at all!! It’s now been six days since the accident, I only have a bruise on my left shoulder and my son it still “A-OK” of-course I’ve had him checked out twice now by doctors to make double sure.
I was driving a 2005 Land Rover Freelander and to be completely honest I had never given thought to safety when purchasing car. Since the wreck I checked the rating of my vehicle and come to find out it had excellent safety rating for keeping people safe in the event of a wreck.
So, it’s just a week later now and I’ve already settled and received my insurance check and believe or not I have already decided, paid and order our new 2009 Land Rover LR2 HSE it’s due to be at the dealer in Germany in just four to six weeks. It’s even safer than the old one, seven airbags and if you’re really interested you can check it out more at landrover.com
Also wanted to note that my son’s car seat is a Confront BeBe “Moby” Oxygen 2/3, not sure if the brand is available in the states or not we purchased at John Lewis in England it’s also available in several locations throughout Europe and “YES” I’ll be replacing the seat with another one.
Here are some pics of my crashed Freelander and our new 2009 LR2 HSE.

Man, thats tough! I’m glad you and your son are OK! Give my regards to the wife.
Wow, that is a crazy occurrence. Glad to hear that both of you are alright, though. Amazing that no serious injuries happened…go Land Rover!
You are lucky to be alive. Old people should have to pass a physical and written driving test at least once every 5 years. More if they have points.
Damn….that car is now history….anyway i am glad your son and you are okay.
OMG, sorry for the accident and it’s very terrible indeed.
Thank goodness you and your son were fined
That car has been damaged so much.I’m glad that you & your son have escaped & your new looks good.
Thanks GOD, both you and your son are safe. Look at the car it’s doomed. You guys are lucky. It proves that Land Rover is a very safe car. Land Rover simply ROCKS !! Pay my regards to your wife.
The damages is really bad. The land rover is really a waste. Good things you have better new one.
OMG! You and your son are so lucky to have walked away with minor injuries.
I think elderly people should take a driving test more than every 5 years…every year is more like it. Elderly people are susceptible to more physical ailments and b/c of their medication intake may be more physically impaired to drive a vehicle.
All I know is that I will definitely do my homework a little more diligently the next time I purchase a car.
Glad to see you’re ok. I was in an accident a few years ago too – again, it was an old guy who wasn’t paying attention and he slammed into the back of me while I was stationery.
Fortunately I was on my own and I’m ok, but couldn’t imagine how scary it would be to have your son in the back too.
Wow, you are extremely lucky to be injury-free, and I’m happy that you got lucky at the right time, for you and your sons sake.
You are very lucky!!!! The old Land Rover is a waste, but you have a new one.
This accident was horrible, i must say you people were luck and escaped. It is very important to have complete specs knowledge about the car you drive.
I am so sorry to hear/see what happened. I am thankful that everything is okay. I hope that you and your family is handling all of this okay.
This must have been such a frightening experience! So glad to know that you and your son are okay.
Wow – that looks bad – glad you were ok!
How was the guy in the other car, or did his car barely have a scratch?!
It is terrible. Thanks God you stayed alive!!!
wow. glad to hear that no serious injuries were caused. life can change rather quickly.
wow that is nuts – you rolled it – you lucky the glass windshield help up – land rover is the most advanced 4×4 that exists – most people don’t know how GOOD it is.
You are lucky to be alive – I would crap my pants if I was rolling O_o
Oh my Lord, I have chillbumps just reading this. I am glad that there were no injuries, but just thinking about how differently it could have turned out is freaky.
Stay safe!
glad to know your all ok! be careful next time.
Thank you – for all comments .. Yes I know it’s crazy neither of us getting injuries and I know that we are both very lucky. I’ve been driving for 16 years now and that was my first wreck and hopefully my last — extra extra precautions while on the road — on the look out for people that should not be on the road in the first place.
Just 3 more weeks until the new Land Rover arrives from the factory in the UK..
Wow, that is a crazy occurrence. Glad to hear that both of you are alright, though. Amazing that no serious injuries happened…go Land Rover!
You are lucky to be alive. Old people should have to pass a physical and written driving test at least once every 5 years. More if they have points.
Wow! I am sure glad you are ok. I can’t imagine what you went through having to listen to your son scream and you’re helpless. I am just so glad you both are ok. No joke, I would have my son check out 2 or 3 times as well.
You have much luck, that you’re ok
It’s good that you were in a car like this so you weren’t hurt at all. And it’s good to hear you remained calm and got your soon out of the car.
wow it’s amazing that you guys were not hurt, that land rover is totaled! Props on the new car, looks like an upgrade!
You are lucky to be alive. Old people should have to pass a physical and written driving test at least once every 5 years. More if they have points.
Elderly drivers :roles eyes: Not that I’m ageist ofcourse, but I feel that driving regulations should be tougher. Heck, I love driving and hopefully when I’m grey and old I’ll still be driving, but I’d want to know I’m on the road because I’m still 100% healthy and no legal leniancy due to age, as I’d never, ever want to cause a crash like that of above.
Then again, same crash could of as easily been created by a young, inexperienced driver. Such is life I guess, but I’m glad you had a little Freelander miracle!
You got me thinking about my cars safety rating so I checked out http://www.euroncap.com <- just in case anyone else is interested to find out more.
That was really so shocked news. Anyway thanks god now you can overcome it. Now i think you are more sincere then before. Thanks for sharing this in your post with us.
Thank god you are lucky to be alive.I am glad that there were no injuries.
If you change environment it can take your brain a while to catch up, especially going from a rural to an urnban environment.
Thank God you and your son are ok. These types of stories make me cringe as my wife and i commute 200 miles a day in are little roadster. I’ve been rear ended twice already and after both times I just felt scrambled.
Can’t wait til I can just work from either with the horses or trading stocks.
God Bless,
Bill
Your new car looks good though. Glad the insurance came through quickly!
Whats the damage on the other car?
Glad to hear that both you and your son experienced no injury in this horrendous crash. How different things may have been if you had not both been using seatbelts and a car seat.
I’m of the opinion that all drivers should undergo refresher training and re-examination beyond a certain age (55? 65?)
Wow.. glad to see that you are safe. Nevermind about the car, your life is more important!
Damn, glad you are here to tell the story and even more that you and your little boy are safe and sound. This is crazy. We never think how life can change in the blink of an eye. It’s true what you said about looking at security ratings for cars, I never look at them either but your post may well change my habits.
That is so scary! I am glad you were ok, there is nothing worse than being in a car wreck with your kids.
Wow glad to hear that you both ok, I can’t believe that you rolled so many times, like I always say it not me I worry about, but the over road users, 9/10 times its the other persons fault not yours.
Holy smokes! First, glad to hear that you and the son are ok, and second…what a product endorsement for Land Rover. If I were you, I’d forward them this article. You never know, and I’m not saying you need to capitalize on this incident, but I’m sure they’d love to hear about their product saving lives.
Oh my God..!
You are very lucky.. I’m glad to hear you’re all right..
Wow. I’ve been researching cars and safety to find the best deal. Having never been in a serious accident this was indeed scary to look at. My appreciation for Land Rover has definitely gone up! Nice to hear you where able to walk away from it all with no injuries.
Hey, after all it’s god that you are ok. In spite of all sayings the SUV’s are the safetest cars
WOW. I don’t know what to say! That sucks that your car is totaled, but you can’t put a price on your lives. I’m glad neither of you were hurt. That alone is a miracle, considering the fact that you rolled. I’m glad you were smart and wear seatbelts and have your son in a car seat. That car does seem to be able to take some damage though. Good choice on getting another similar one. Glad to hear that it worked out as good as possible given the situation.
That’s some sick shit man. Glad to hear that both of you are okay.
in this part I can say that put your car in an insurance is really has a reasonable point. Just think how much it will cost you without an insurance.
It’s a miracle! You and your son are so very luck that you survived in the accident. That will be one of your unforgettable experience maybe.
Btw, congrats on your new ride! God bless!
If you would have been in any other car than a Land Rover it could have been a lot worse, those cars are built to sustain! Glad you are both ok
The fact that after a crash like that you ended up having no injuries is surely a good spot for Land Rover. You choose right to have another, newer one!
I may be true that a high incidence of accidents occur within days of returning from a holiday (especially to the UK from Europe of course), but to be fair, this one is more down to synchronicity (I was going to say “serendipity”, but it didn’t sound quite right!) in that it can’t possibly have been your fault.
Quite an informative post! i must appreciate you for this well written content
Ahhh man I feel bad. I also have a Land Rover
Aside from the safety features of your old Land Rover and your son’s car seat; I think, it was also a miracle that you and your son didn’t get any injury. You boys are so lucky
I’m glad that you and your son are ok after this scary experience.
I hope you all are fine. It is aboult horror to have such a bad accident.
I feel with you.
So you have a secound birthday each year.
This accident was horrible, i must say you people were luck and escaped. It is very important to have complete specs knowledge about the car you drive.
Good thing you were in a Land Rover and not some other less safe car.
you are a supper man. right? amazing and unbelievable
http://kartakhu.com/
Oh my gosh! I am so glad you are ok… I can’t imagine what I would do if something would happen to my little one. I am sooo glad he is ok!
Someone’s definitely looking over you. It’s amazing that you came out of it with just a bruise.
I love land rover and you’ve got it but got into accident. I am glad that nothing happen bad to you and your son. I think that’s the most important thing.
Thank God, you and your son were not hurt in that fatal crash. The car is a picture of a total wreck. It must be a miracle that you were left unscathed in the accident. Be more careful next time.
Glad you guys are ok… They do say that most things happen when you´re nearly home, you´re right. At least it wasn´t your fault though – stupid man!! Was he hurt? I hope you had a good go at him after the crash!!?? Loving the new car though!! Gold is nice – easier to see than black as well! Enjoy – stay safe.
Marina
I remember how in my first accident I was only two minutes from home on the way to work when another car hit me on the side. I don’t remember rolling it that many times. Thankfully I was the only one in the car as I reckon any passenger would have died as the passenger door was only inches from my thigh.
You are right about the “5 minutes from home” crash – for me it was just a “2 minutes from home” crash
Yea, I think most wrecks happen within a few minutes from home is because most of the time you’re driving within a few minutes from home. It’s not often you’re 30 miles from the house in every-day driving.
Nice Land Rover!
Glad to hear that both you and your son made it through and recovered fine. That would be a horrifying experience for most people and you illustrated the story very well!
Hi Jason, I am glad to hear that you and you’re son are okay. It is amazing, we often neglect, just how dangerous it can really be to be driving on the road. That is why, I always try to get the safest car to drive, because safety should be a priority for everyone.
I am sorry… but you didn’t say, how was the other guy? Was he okay too?
At what speed was the contact?
Did the insurance company give you a blank check for the car? Or did they give you the money they thought the car was worth?
Sorry I am just very curious.
Till then,
Jean
Having a child to go through that is pretty scary. I’m glad you two were both fine!
I’m glad you two are ok. Cheers! to Land Rover. It’s a great car for a great price.
Land rover are amazing cars and built very well… good you repicked another one up. And even greater your fine
Glad to hear that you got out of there alive with arms and legs bud. Next time, watch out for those weird drivers.
Ohhh!! This accident was horrible, i must say you people were luck and escaped. It is very important to have complete specs knowledge about the car you drive.
Ouch, that looks pretty bad, luckily Ive never had a real bad crash.
you should be thankful that you are still alive
Is it safe to assume that you and your family are doing well since the crash? I sure hope so and can’t wait till your next post.
Cheers!
You are extremely lucky to walk away from that without injury. I hope you enjoy your new vehicle!
I’am sorry for your car’s breakage. The good thing is that nobody got hurt.Your new car looks great.Be careful with your new car. Please update your blog.
The things people will do to get a new car!
Hope you and your son are well. It must have been really terrifying just as well you were in sturdy car. After the accident how was your son going into the car for the first time?
Man, thats tough! I’m glad you and your son are OK! Give my regards to the wife.
Oh Noooo. That’s my favorite SUV. Land Rover is tough.
And good to know you both are okay.
I’ve been in two wrecks, nothing serious and never rolled over. That’s really incredible and good to hear everyone is okay. Great testimonial for Land Rover!
just look at your car..Glad that you were in Land Rover. Glad to hear that you all are safe…No wonder Land Rover is called one the tuffest SUV
Sorry to hear your news. Looks like the Land Rover is a safe car and thanks for the info on the baby seat.
Thank God, that you both are good and healthy. That was a terrible accident and can be observed by seeing the accident Land Rover.
Sorry to hear this. Thank goodness nothing bad happened to you both.
Nice post thank you for the information here is fun to read. I have bookmark your site.
I definately look into which of the new models are safest in car crashes.
the detail about hearing your son screaming in the back seat definitely sent chills up my spine….
glad everything worked out okay.
from the look of your car you are lucky to have survived.
good, succinct article.
Lucky you had a Landrover, a normal car would have been crushed.
Thanks GOD, both you and your son are safe. Look at the car it’s doomed. You guys are lucky.
It proves that Land Rover is a very safe car. Land Rover simply ROCKS !! Pay my regards to your wife.
first reading the blog in the home page i thought this guy right some cinema story but after seeing this photo really you are so lucky to be alive to write this post..
and i think you are testing you are luck by buying new car in a month
Anyway be cautious while driving, think of your fellow travellers your son & wife and drive
Luck really endowed you and your family. But we cannot always depend on luck. Extra precautionary measure is better and don’t forget that watchful eyes. Always be keen in all your dealings, like traveling and the like. Be thankful for you are safe and still kicking but I think luck is not the word here. It’s fate.
Oh my god! It looks serious.
happy new year to all.
Give Thank to the God
Wow, How scary…..I’m glad your son is ok. I have 2 small children and it seems that I am the only one in the family who buckles them in porperly into their car seats. In fact my father-in law doesnt evn put my oldest in a chair. Oh that make me so mad. I have gotten in 2 accidents and both were within miles of my home! I think the time has come to buy a larger automobile…the heavier the car; the lesss likely you are to die. Thats a fact.
It looks like a horrible accident. Hope you are fine
You have tried some thing very scary. Anyhow, you escaped from that accidents and you are safe.
Thank God for a miracle. Your old car looks a real mess in the picture. I think, it’s really a miracle that you and your son had survived the crash without serious injuries. It’s very good of you to check the safety ratings of a car before choosing and buying a new one. You and your son have received a second chance to live so take care of your lives now.
Its good to share experiences with others so that we can feel happy in some moment or the other. This can be a great resource for the older blogs that need to make some changes.
Sounds dreadful:(..best of luck
Man, God bless your okay. The transition is pictures is something else. Broken –> Shiny new is crazy. It’s sad that getting a new car is due to tragedy.
Wow that is mess up man, luckily you survive.
That car took so much on itself and still kept you and your son safe. Great car.
that is a nasty blow! god’s grace your family is doing good in spite of that big blow to your car.
i am sure you must have had bad memories and time for long time. the things past are past, you must be happy for your family is safe.
Wow! I just came across your site and saw this post I have a 4 year old son and was just looking for a new family car, I will definitly be checking out the Land Rover. by the way good to hear you and your son are ok amazing that you both came out of the whole ordeal with out even getting hurt
It’s miracle you both are ok….! I can’t image how terrible that accident .. For all of us its important to have complete specs knowledge about car before we buy one…and also..keep be careful when driving..
OMG even reading the post was scary enough for me. I am glad that you are both ok and thank you for listing the baby car seat model, I will be looking into getting one soon and it seems like the one you had was a great one
Well is good to be fine! that’s what real matters, but just as you said now for next time let’s thing about safety when getting a new car, specially when you have little kids, they are more vulnerable to accidents than we are. Well I’m glad you are fine!
Those are some horrific pictures of your vehicle. It looks the car took the
brunt of the impact, glad to hear you both escaped major injuries.
It’s good you both are okay. I can imagine how traumatic that must’ve been, especially to a toddler. Your new car looks great, by the way.
That’s intense, but looks like you got a sweet new ride out of the deal. Glad you’re ok.
that’s what real matters, but just as you said now for next time let’s thing about safety when getting a new car, specially when you have little kids, they are more vulnerable to accidents than we are.
YOu are ok its enough, But bro always take care of old guys driving around you, i also had an accident like this before.
you guyz are lucky, Have you Thanks To Almighty that you are save.
It is really great that you and the kid are alright. I have seen some horrible accidents in my time and some are not as lucky as you are. On another note, congrats on the new car!
It proves that Land Rover is a very safe car. Land Rover simply ROCKS !! Pay my regards to your wife.
let’s thing about safety when getting a new car, specially when you have little kids, they are more vulnerable to accidents than we are. Well I’m glad you are fine!
Wow – makes me want to be really careful around my home, especially on my new motorbike. Those things don’t have doors and a roof to protect you!
Gosh, that is scary especially with your 2 year old.. We are never promised a tomorrow. Live everyday like it is your last.
I am glad you both are ok.
Those pictures are rather scary. It does serve to illustrate the merit of having a substantial vehicle. I am glad you and your two year old survived this ordeal unscathed.
Whoa! That was really bad. Oh well accidents really happens.
I like the new 2009 LR2 HSE. It looks much better and beautiful. LOL. Be safe! LOL
I was really shocked !!!My opinion is that all drivers should undergo refresher training and re-examination beyond a certain age… I think , Insurance will safe the people in the event of a wreck…
You and your son took quite a roll! Glad to hear your both ok.
You can always replace a car, but not a life.
You and your son are very lucky. Very fortunate that you were driving the care you had, as well as the car seat for your son. I am sure it was very scary for you and your son and am glad that everything turned out ok. Have fun with your new car!
i am shocked.
i totally agree with what m-audio has said, people must have a refresher course every year as well as people must drive responsibly.
I heard that many accidents occur within just 50 feet of your home! I’m glad to hear you weren’t hurt.
This accident was horrible, i must say you people were luck and escaped. It is very important to have complete specs knowledge about the car you drive.

It’s a miracle you made it through that!
Hey thats not good. Sounds like you got luck. You have to watch out for them left hand turning old people.
Excellent Post. Thanks
My boyfriend and I have been needing a holiday for a while but have never gotten round to it because of his work commitments. Finally I am looking forward to the 3 of us going away together.
That was some nasty crash. Mind you the new car looks spiffing! Glad you weren’t injured.
Thank god so that no big harm is done.
You are very lucky person for your family and your child because you are alive and spending the moment with your family
I am thankful that everything is okay. I hope that you and your family is handling all of this okay.
Damn that looks really scary, glad to know that you’re at least ok. The new landrover looks pretty sweet though.
You definitely came out of the accident well, of course not being the accident in the first place would have been the best option but some stuff you just can’t avoid can you. The pictures show what an ordeal it must have been and even though you say you are all ok and your son is A Ok I am sure there are still some occasions where you think about it and no doubt thank your lucky stars things turned out the way they did. Hope the new car gives you the same protection as the old one obviously did a great job keeping you with us!
WOW!…glad everyone walked away ok. Nice looking new ride, hopefully the nutty drivers will stay away this time.
I’m very glad that you and your son are safe and escaped injury.
The road can be a scary place…
Thanks to god i am happy to know that you and your son are safe.
This must have been such a frightening experience! So glad to know that you and your son are okay.
If you would have been in any other car than a Land Rover it could have been a lot worse, those cars are built to sustain! Glad you are both ok
This must have been such a frightening experience! Thank god so that no big harm is done.
Generally insurance people won’t pay ur claim so soon but here u are very lucky to get it so soon
WOW!
I’m glad both of you got out without a scratch. Kudos to landrover for a near indestructible cabin!!!
This is why I always prefer an SUV when shuttling around with kids.
The landrover is known as one of the safest cars in the world. There are some accidents that cannot be avoided. This is when you truly realize the value of airbags.
Damn….that car is now history….anyway i am glad your son and you are okay.
Sounds like a terrible experience. Good your vehicle held up well to the impact, ultimately protecting both you and your son.
The new Land Rover has changed into Dustbin. Its fine that you and yoour son escaped.
Wow. That is scary. I’m glad to hear you and your boy were not injured. Looking at those photos is frightening. My gosh…I’d have totally panicked. Like the new wheels! Safe journeys to you. Cheers!
I am so sorry to hear/see what happened. That car has been damaged so much. Thanks GOD, both you and your son are safe. If you would have been in any other car than a Land Rover it could have been a lot worse.
Thanks to god i am happy to know that you and your son are safe.
Gosh.. that was awful, it’s a good thing you drove a heavy car like land rover.. hope it’s the last accident you have to experience, take care
It is terrible. Thanks God you stayed alive!!!
Wow that thing look like some bad news… It must have been some of an experience.. you roof is damaged too.. After i had an accident last year i couldn’t get asleep for almost a week…

Thank’s God you’re alive.
Yeah that is crazy. That SUV is tore up from the floor up. Stay safe
Wow! Glad you were ok. It is a good lesson to us all to be forever as vigilant as possible on the road. One little lapse in concentration and you are toast. Stay well.
That’s really bad. Caution should never be left out when driving.
Oh my god! It looks serious occurrence. I am glad that there were no injuries..Give my regards to the wife. I saw an accident a few years ago I was shocked. I pray for you hope everything will be fine.
I’m glad you and your son. you are very lucky god is with you.hope you will be normal soon.
It is really an embarrassing incident. I really thank god as you both and your son are safe. Please be careful and try to avoid such incidents. May god bless your family.

Oh No..I can imagine how terrific the incident was just by watching the pictures. First thank the god for every ones safety. Lets hope it will never happen. I am bothering about that kid. May all of you get well soon. May god bless you.
Bull Shit!!! that is nuts – you rolled it – you lucky the glass windshield help up – land rover is the most advanced 4×4 that exists – most people don’t know how GOOD it is. You have taken a good decision to buy the other one.
Hey!! Its bad to listen … All enjoyment of the trip and the moments that remain in the mind after trip are destroyed buy this crash… But happy to you and your son.. Both saved… N always take care !!!
Ouch! That’s one heck of a “bump”… Accidents can be a total disaster sometimes.
But the most important thing is that you and your son are fine. You can fix the car, but you can’t bring a person back from the dead.
- Johnny
Very Touching title!
God Blessed you and your Family. This is a very scary Experience for you.

Looking at the pictures of your wrecked car, you and your son are really lucky to be alive!
Glad to hear that you and your son are okay. I just looked at your new Land Rover; it looks awesome; plus good to hear that it is also safer.
hi, i am happy to hear you and your son are fine. and i say thanks to god for help you. and this is a terrible one.
Myself and 3 of my friends are planning to go on holiday in september for 2 weeks but 2 of them think that £500 each for 2 weeks, all inclusive in Turkey is expensive.
I also experienced a problem of crashing the car while going for the trip s I used to ensure the condition of car before start the journey.I enjoyed the post very much thanks for the posting
Wow, those photos are incredible. Thank goodness that both you and your son were ok. I think that the result is a testament to the durability of the vehicle. Land Rover’s have their strengths and weaknesses, but thankfully durability is a strength.
