Bloggers Are All Millionaires – When to Quit
I have read so many articles on the net were people state how easy it is to start a website and the next day you are driving a Ferrari and living in a Castle. Then reality sets in two weeks later when you are on or about your 14th article and you are logging into your Google AdSense account and there is total of 10 cents for your three hundred hours of labor. At this moment you are probably thinking F*** this and you are faced with the big decision of whether to quit or to continue on with it.
The Excitement: this is often around the first two weeks or so of your blogs life and the initial excitement is there after all you are about to make millions just like the article said and many other bloggers are already doing (all lies). I have to omit I have been in the excitement stage a few times with some blogs in the past but I let them die within the first month. Even my wife’s fashion/celebrity blog that we started together I was excited about it and helped her with web design and even posting articles. Then soon that excitement wore off for me and if it were not for her continuing to post everyday we would not have her blog or this personal blog I’ve started just two months ago. However we are not millionaires from blogging she doesn’t do to bad on earning some extra income for her hobby; profits for March are already at $1231.23. My words of wisdom from our year’s experience of blogging you must look at it as a hobby or you will be severely disappointed if you are looking for it to pay your bills quickly. Basically do not quit your day job, unless you intend to starve for a while.
The Life: maybe you are the exception to the rules; like my wife was and you have the will to make it past the two week blogger failure rate. Then new factors will start coming into play your busy life and how will you manage a blog around it. It can not be that hard to post just one article a day right, think again. What happens, you find that it takes much discipline to carry on writing articles daily and then you cut back to two or three articles a week. Before you know it your busy life has cut you back to posting once every other week. Some advice to you make a schedule for writing the article and then stick to it and turn your TV off, just common sense.
The Give Up: very common scenario in the blogging world where a blogger has been at it for a long time and then simply gives up because they lose site of their goal. I will say it again if you look at blogging as a hobby then you will never give up because you are doing it for pleasure and not for Millionaire goal. Maybe you are giving up because someone pushed you down on the playground and called your blog crap. Then get back up and push them down and tell them exactly what you are doing and what you think about them and post it on your blog. Bottom line if you want something bad enough then there is no room for quitters. Take your blogging hobby to the sky and beyond.
The Niche: this is a must because you must blog about something that you have an interest in because if you don’t then you will surely quit. I am very experienced in this department for the simple reason of why I started this personal blog. Fashion & Celebrity blogging gets damn right boring for me and I could not continue on posting articles on who has the biggest ass, tits and the smallest waist line. So basicly I had to find my niche that would allow me to enjoy blogging because my wife’s site was not enjoyable to me but I have to omit I do read it from time to time.
Final thought: enjoy blogging and stop taking it so damn serious.

Great article. I helped a friend set up a blog a couple of months ago, but he’s already frustrated at making nothing more than pennies. It really does take a lot patience, perseverance, passion and dedication to make anything significant. Congratulations on your wife’s profits. $1231 a month is more than some people’s salary!
Thank you Spud, yes that is usually the case frustration sets in when people think they can just start a blog and then next month quit there jobs. Actually really funny when I think about it because people on the net write this articles on websites with fake pictures of accomplishments and make statements; like you can do it too with just a few hours work a day and presto you making 1000s a day.
Like I was saying people should look at starting a blog as a hobby not as a reason to quit school or job.
Good and honest post.
I’m still mad I don’t see the new header like everyone else.
I believe I cleared my cache.
I don’t get it…
If it’s only a hobby, and it starts becoming a chore, then I’d say that’s when it’s time to give the game away.
Blogging started out as a diary or fun for many. I guess many people are too absorbed or taken in into the money-making factor. True, a couple of pennies can be made, but if you hold your expectation too high, you are bound to be dearly disappointed when you fail the mark. Take it easy, that’s what I would tell bloggers who write for other motives.
I have link back to this post. The ‘fun’ factor must be in first. Without it, then it would just be like going to for just for the paycheck
Hello,
Yes a honest post me just rambling on, really. Good point Swollenpickels yes if it’s a chore or just flat a stress then just walk away. I think lyndon the reason that people become absorbed are the millions of articles on the net stating that you can make a killing.
When in fact you can make alot of money but it is just best to look at it as a hobby at first then if you do strike it lucky then good going and then you can start talking about your success and tell the truth about how long it really takes to become successful and make millions.
Agreed,
I view web development as a hobby – it brings in extra cash that I can then splurge on random electronics. But I think its too unpredictable for most people to do it as a living – unless you’re John Chow.
Good article. With two new blogs being created every two seconds, let’s be glad that most folks give up after a few weeks.
I find I have much I want to write about, so no problem with content…just the muster and time to do it. It can be a drag. Much power to you.
Yes blogging is a hobby that is really easy to give up. Thanks to all for the positive feedback.
It must be a nice way to blog if you’re blogging with your beloved wife. I hope I can be too someday…

Sorry, it just sounds like a crazy idea for me
Congratulations on your wife’s profits.I never had a chance to get such profit.
this is exactly why i am only going to write about photography in my blog. Other stuff just isn’t interesting to me, maybe fly-fishing, but I don’t do that enough to actually write about it.
Surely, most of us have the push ability to kick a start and mostly motivated by money. However, in the same number, we sometimes started a game which we thought we know how to play but in reality we don’t. But, this isn’t always the case, especially when before you started kicking to the glory, you already have laid out your strategic plan of overcoming all the obstacles there might be.
