Blog Tips for Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization for a blog is similar to optimizing a website but since they are updated frequently and use very little html search engine results are much higher than static website pages.
Keyword(s) In Your Domain
When ever possible you should try and purchase a domain for you blog that uses a primary keyword you want to become optimize for. This is something that I did not give any thought too but have noticed that others that have used this method are more successful for being optimized for a particular keyword.
Primary Key Phrases
Primary key phrases such as “make money online” a key phrase that took the bloggingworld like the black plague. Insure your phrase is included in the title of your blog <title>your phrase</title> and it should also be included in post titles though out your site. Keep in mind though if you are optimizing for a key phrase such as the one above you will have steep competition - maybe consider using a different variation of it for better results.
Keywords In Your Post
Use keywords sporadically in your posts; body text, links to posts (deep linking), images, and outbound links. Now identify a keyword(s) that you hope to get indexed by Google. Keyword(s) should be used though out your article and insure that you use it in the title of the post and it’s within your first two sentences. Remember do not spam your articles with your keywords because it’s off putting to readers.
Get Backlinks
I been successful for get getting backlinks with the following methods; review blogs for link back, commenting dofollow sites, blog networks, free directories, good content and speed linking. Read more about these methods of getting backlinks for search engine optimization.
Update Regularly
Using the rules outlined above update your site daily with quality content. This principle is thoroughly taught by SEOs and they establish principles as to why this is beneficial to search engine optimization. My opinion on updating; it takes good content to keep you readers coming back, linking to your articles. Then eventually search engines will take a hint and index your article to the top by the amount of interest it has.

Don’t forget the deep linking (linking back to previous posts). I did not see that in your post.
It’s under ‘Keywords In Your Post’ - links to posts.
Yeah, deep links are where it’s at.
I’m also starting to turn regular brochureware websites into blogs - it’s that much easier to build links to them, and because the content changes people actually bother to come back. Blogs rule.
Well, does “Keywords in your post” help in case of sitewide linking from homepage at larger extent even if it’s from the same root domain? For ex: On the blog homepage, if we have permanent links to the Best posts of the blog, will it help in increasing those posts’ SERPs?
Missed “links to posts”. You may want to expand on it, or even add the term “deep linking”.
“Links to posts”, could be taken as someone else’s posts.
Yes keywords in posts will help with SERPs even if it’s from the same domain that’s what SEOs preach all the time.
note taken: will add in (deep linking)
I think it is definitely important to include at least one of your targeted keywords in your domain. When I was deciding what to name my community building blog, I was adamant that I was to include the word ‘community’ in my domain name - hence the birth of communityspark.com!
- Martin Reed
Yes I agree 150% if only I would have thought of that before hand!! Oh well sticking to my domain for better or worse!!
Good point from Martin, but you do have some traction Jason. Better stick with it.
After you go beyond certain popularity levels with search engines, the keywords in domain name may not matter.
Jakeldaily.com or johnchow.com will be still at the tops for their respective search terms. If they use enough good keywords in blog post titles, it shall work for the keyword missing in domain name.
I decided on my domain name for daily ramblings, but certainly I would squeeze in some “make money online” related articles in here
Yes I agree it’s important in the beginning but once you become popular it does not matter so much - because then your domain is being passed around on sites and word of mouth. (popularity=backlinks)
So do you still go on adding backlinks? Or it’s sailing on popularity..
My review for my blog is still on going but I have not been pursuing it as much as I did in the beginning.
Is it necessary to have Keyword in domain?? But people like Johnchow are not havin any keywords… I think it is enough to optimize the permalink structure.
Update regularly with high quality content.

I thought individual content would be more important for search engines. But I’ll try.
It helps at first starting out with a keyword in your domain. You can not use Chow as an example because he used his established site TTZ media to market his personal blog.
