Are You Checking Your Site Resolutions
Ok clearly 1024×768 screen resolution is the most popular on my site and according to statistics this resolution is dominant across the net. As you can see from the Google Analytics percentage graph below this resolution is used by 40.58% of the reader traffic that comes to my site.
However as you can see there are also other resolutions to take into consideration when looking at your over all site design and how it appears to all users. While keeping this in mind today; I took a look at my site in some different resolutions to include; 800×600, 1024×768, 1280×1024 and 1600×1200 to insure that my site meet the standards that readers require when coming to the site.
After testing the site today in the resolutions above I have decided that I like my site best in 1280×1024 a little smaller but looks the best in my opinion and is preferred by 21.74% of traffic coming to the site. Before my testing today I was with the majority on resolution 1024×768 but found that I prefer this resolution better.
When designing and or picking a Wordpress theme you really must keep these resolutions in mind because if you don’t you will lose traffic! Even though the percentage for 800×600 (& others on my chart) are very small it is still very important that your site is still catering to them also because when your site starts getting millions of page views one day those percents will account for a lot of traffic that will never come again if your site is poorly designed for their resolution.
Now test your website in IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Netscape the dominate browsers for my site are Firefox (50.72%) and IE (42.03%). I use IE7 on my machines but I have tested the look and feel of this site in all browsers to insure that it is up to par across the board for all users.
I know that not everyone has accomplished this, so you know what to do! Oh and here’s a site I found for testing the look in different resolutions but really it’s best to just see it in real time on your own machine if you have a video card that can support the lowest to the highest resolutions. As for the web browsers download them who knows maybe you will end up liking one of them.

Good point. That’s one place I’ve been too lax, testing other resolutions and also all browsers. Looks like I have a task for this week.
My analytics shows that 1280×1024 is most popular..but I think that’s because that’s what I use. Is there a way you’re blocking your IP so your pageviews and other info aren’t logged?
I tried putting in a script to block my IP but I dont think it’s working
Yes I was actually surprised that Firefox was out doing the all mighty IE. Finally some competition for IE oh but wait this just means Microsoft will spend millions now just to come out on top again, Right.
Gregg, if you are using analytics, I think this would do it… I hope it displays properly…
*analytic script goes here*
where 64.123.123.123 is your own ip.
I’m super excited to see firefox in the lead.. that makes me smile
Sorry JaKel you can delete those comments…
Just… in php, an if statement to check $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] and only display the analytics script if its not equal to your ip.
I am new blogger thank you so much for the advice I had no idea to look at this.
Thanks

This screen resolution website is pretty good find – wish I could find one for different browsers than downloading all of them.
You motivated me to do the analysis… right now, I mostly track keyword search leading to my websites/blogs, geographical location, and URL being hit most often through Google analytics.
I am not seriously intend to checking visitor resolutions, I am referred to checking visitor browser, and also checking my site on various browser, to ensure that my site working fine to all browser.
But, it’s a good posting that make me to checking the resolutions, because my site have large width that not enjoyed by 800×600 resolutions.
Really thats one point where I was really lazy. Just checked my site in all resolutions now. Looks okay mostly. IE beats firefox in my stats. And my site looks better in IE. So thats fine by me.
It’s always a good idea to check how your site appears in all the major browsers as well as the various resolutions.

[...] Neuman asks whether you are checking your site’s appearance in different screen resolutions. This post is complementary to my article entitled ‘Do you know what your site looks [...]
I think designing a website with 100% table width is the most reasonable idea. As it can fit on any screen. Its better to focus from 800×600 to upwards.
Well since I’ve redesigned the site and it does not cater to 800×600 I am glad that only 7.34% actually use this resolution and I’m hoping that in the next year they will throw those computers in the rubbish bin or at least buy a new g-card..
