How To Prepare For The Next PageRank Update

Do you want to be an ‘A-List’ blogger one day?  What does it take to make it to the top?  There are many factors to achieving your long-term blogging goal and PageRank is on that list!  

I’m sure that most of you are aware of the famous Google PageRank system and if you are not then I will explain quickly. PageRank relies on unique independent identifiers used in a voting system determine by Google for which then give the value of an individual’s site.

During the last PageRank update in April this site went from a PR0 to PR5.  According to the experts Google’s PageRank update takes place approximately every 3 months which in my opinion is an excellent amount time for preparation. Below you will read about methods that I have used that you can take advantage of to start boosting your PageRank today! 

PageRank Prediction

To get started use a PageRank prediction tool to see where you stand for the next update. The PageRank prediction tool is used to predict your website’s PageRank based on the quantity and quality of backlinks.  Take note that these tools only provide an estimate of future PageRank and should not be taken literally since its not precise.

According to both of these prediction tools this site should be a PR6 on the next update but who knows what will happen with Google in control! 

DoFollow Blogs

Just yesterday I jumped on the dofollow wagon that started back in April.  What the dofollow plugin does is remove the nofollow tag off the commenting section allowing readers to receive a full credit linkback.  This is great news because this means that every comment you make on a dofollow blog will now count as a linkback to your site. 

To get you started I have found a list of 170 + blogs that dofollow including mine! The draw back to this is it will be a time consuming endeavor because when you leave a comment you should be sincere and leave something relative (not a spam comment)

Review Blogs For Link Back

I’m not 100% sure but I think John Chow is the one that started the review my blog for a back link promotion so I give him credit.  I started my review my blog 1st of March and since then I have completed 17 batches giving a total 170 backlinks from sites that reviewed my blog.  The method I used was each batch that John uploaded I emailed those people offering the same promotion – that’s it.  If you have not reviewed my site and want a PR5 linkback then just follow the rules below:

Blog Networks

This is a paid method and I realize people are tight when it comes to speeding on their blogs because I was one of those people for a long time until I realized it takes money to make money in this industry.

Really straight forward just submit an article max 500 words with 3 links to your site, paypal $25 to admin@jakeldaily.com. Then with in 24 hours I will submit it to 40 blogs giving you a total of 120 links and an increase of 40 authority for Technorati.  Soon I will be adding an additional 10 blogs for a total of 50 blogs – same price!
 
Free Directories

Getting links from directories can have a tremendous effect on your PageRank since some are recognized as high authority (vote) sites.  There are few ways that you can go about this. You can pay people to submit your URL to select directories or you can submit yourself. 

To submit to directories yourself I recommend a program called Directory Submitter Standard and it’s absolutely free unless you want to upgrade it for more directories. I’ve personally used the free version which allows you to submit to 350 directories and I found the process extremely easy.  Submit to over 2200 directories.  

Content Is Key

Without good content a blog will fail!  Never upload for the sake of it! When you post an article you are representing your name/blog and should always take attention to detail to produce quality long lasting articles that are readable for years to come. 

Google loves great unique content and this will get you index much quicker especially if the articles contain strong keywords.  Do not confuse what I’ve just said because I’m not suggesting you write for Google/search engines. When writing your articles you should always write them the way you want to get your point across to readers and the Google indexing will come into play naturally. 

Speed linking

Yes speed linking the most criticized method of boosting your backlinks.  Everyone’s doing it and if they aren’t then they are closet wantabes!  Two methods that I have used and found extremely successful are ViraTags and ViraLinks. 

  • ViraTags speeding linking is good for both SEO and Technorati increase.
  • ViraLinks is good for only Technorati increase.

If you are afraid of all the rumors out there that you will be penalized for using such methods then I advice do not use them and stick to waiting and paying for links.  Oh wait a minute I think I remember reading that paid links are bad also – who knows so just keep waiting for someone to vote for your site with a link.

DoFollow Promotion and Wordpress Plugin

I think is was around April that bloggers started jumping on the dofollow wagon for removing the nofollow tag off comments in order to give readers that comment a full backlink.

To be honest I had not given this much thought until yesterday when I came across a list of 170 + blogs created by CourtneyTuttle & GeekySpeaky that have already removed the nofollow tag.

After viewing the list it got me thinking that I should give in and remove the nofollow tag from my site also.  The second thing that crossed my mind was to also use this list for promotion of my recent change and to get 170 + backlinks by visiting each site and commenting with something relative. 

A time consuming endeavor commenting on every blog on the list but I guestimate that at least 20% will become readers after checking my site out from the comment, making it all worthwhile to me!

Wikipedia defined:
nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of spamdexing, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring in the first place.

In order to remove the nofollow tag I came across two plugins that can be installed and then activated:

I ended up installing the Semiologic plugin since I was unable to get the Kimmo page to resolve it must have been down at the time of trying to reach it.  The Semiologic was simple to install just upload it to the plugins folder then go to dashboard and click activate – finished no configuration was need.

Blog Tips and Celebrity Gossip One Domain

Many current readers are aware of my craziness when it came to my decision I made back in February to use one domain for this blog and my wife’s celebrity gossip blog.

Update for new readers:  ‘Two blogs one domain double power’ an article I wrote 3 April about this evilness/craziness.  Many then said I have discredited this blog by using the same domain and so on but basically it’s too late to turn back now(unless you have a working solution).

A lot of bloggers battle back and forth on the idea of using blogger.com or to use Wordpress.  Ja Kel Daily on the other are using both the celebrity gossip site is hosted on blogger.com using a cname record to forward the blogspot URL and this site is hosted on GoDaddy using Wordpress.

Google Search (SEO): “make money blogging” my wife’s site comes up 6th on the first page! Now that’s funny our celebrity site coming up in the same category as make money sites.  

In an attempt to organized these sites together I have redesigned the celebrity gossip site to look as much like this site as possible (logos, layout, etc).  I placed a Blog Tips button on the tool bar of the celebrity site and placed a link in this site in the Top Three News since I am unaware of how to make a button that links directly to another site without creating a page on this site (also put the info in my about section).

According to John this is an evil plan and could piss people off (does it?).  So basically after reading his post on promotion ideas on how to get more traffic I decided why not do it and sell Ja Kel Daily on Sitepoint.

The difference is I am not pretending to sell my site if someone meets the reserve price I have set at the sitepoint premium auction ad then I will sell and go on to starting another site.  According to Dane Carlson ‘How much is your blog Worth!’ Ja Kel Daily is worth $530, 103.06 maybe I’m selling to cheap at $25,000!

How To Increase Links and Traffic

How exactly do you increase links and traffic to your blog?  Promoting links and increasing traffic are two of the same meaning you need links for traffic and visa versa you need traffic for links.

To get started yes it’s true I took John Chow’s “review my blog” idea and threw my own personal short review twist to it in return for the reviews on batches 1 – 14.  Starting with batch 15 do to time restraints I resorted to just giving a link back in return for the review. At present I am on batch 17 giving a total of 170 sites linking back with reviews. If I had to guess I would say out of those reviews around 40% are now readers.

In June I came across and partnered with two bloggers that run blog networks that are used strictly for uploading articles for search engine optimization for site owners. The partnership did not develop until later after many emails and the final agreement then the offer “Get 120 Links from 40 Blogs” was born.  The idea was to offer to my readers the same opportunity that I had received from submitting an article to the network and later I even decided to offer the idea as an Affiliate program to allow other bloggers to make money from it also.  Results: network one increase in Technorati authority 30 and network two increase by 40. Celebrity Gossip keyword 5th page for Google search for my wife’s blog.

    Bloggers and Readers Love Lists:

  • 1. Start with making a list people love linking to lists.
  • 2. Most important write about stuff people want to read.
  • 3. Be open minded to new ideas.
  • 4. Be timeless write about things that are readable years to come.
  • 5. Use images in your posts.
  • 6. Promote commenting and answer those comments.
  • 7. Be personal let readers know who you are.
  • 8. Encourage readers to subscribe to your RSS feeds.
  • 9. Share your ideas and success stories with readers.
  • 10.  Link to other sites do not be a recluse.     

Lastly it’s been approximately four weeks now since I joined Andy’s Viral Links and Jimmy’s Viral Tags ranking improvement post. The idea behind both methods is that after the blogger copies the post onto their blog and you received the ping back you then add their URL to your viral post.  The difference between the two are simple Andy’s Viral Links helps for Technorati rating only and Jimmy’s Vira Tags helps with both Technorati & SEO for Google due to the fact that you choose an anchor keyword(s). Results: to be honest I am unsure as to how much the increase is but I can assure you that my Technorati authority has increase well over 150 because of both methods and my SEO for “make money blogging” is page 5 for a Google search now. 

Overall running score of all efforts: PageRank 5, Technorati Rank: 2521 Autnority: 924 and Alexa 98, 351.

Optimize Your AuctionAds

If you are using AuctionAds on your site have you optimized them yet?  Are your AuctionAds showing a load of items for .99 cents?

The Code:
auctionads_ad_kw = “your keywords minprice:50”;
What I Use:
auctionads_ad_kw =  “Apple iPod MP3 minprice:50″;

If so the procedure to correct this is simple just use the minimum price attribute to eliminate low-price ads (example above) and then your ads will only show bids that are equal to or higher than the amount entered. If you want a higher or lower amount just changed the number to that amount. 

There are two other methods for AuctionAds optimization that I do not recommend due to inconsistency of them working internationally and I haven’t had personal success with them. Stop words (negative keywords) and ad rotating by use of multiple keywords.

Negative Keywords Code:
auctionads_ad_kw = “iPod -case -armband”;

Rotating Ads Code:
auctionads_ad_kw = “keyword1; keyword2; keyword3”;

After you have made any changes it will take few minutes for it to kick in because of the cache on the AuctionAds servers – just be patience.

Google Buying Power

In April Google announced that they are buying DoubleClick a leading company in the ad serving business.  Their reason behind the purchase is that Google and DoubleClick play different roles in online advertising. DoubleClick gives advertisers/agencies the tools to plan and deliver their online banner/video campaign. To make a long story short basically by combining Google’s infrastructure with DoubleClick knowledge they will be able to deliver the next generation of innovative ads significantly improving the overall effectiveness of online advertising.

  • Feedburner (100 Million)
  • Blogger –Pyra Labs
  • Measuremap (???)
  • Peakstream (???)
  • Jotspot (???)
  • Greenborder (???)

Google’s continued buying power is as always causing conflict in the world.  It seems this time that they have upset the EU with the DoubleClick purchase and they want to put a stop to it.  According to NYTimes.com Europe’s major consumer group BEUC said on the 4th of July 2007 that they feared the Internet search engine company Google takeover of DoubleClick would damage EU privacy rights and limit consumers’ choice of Web content.

What is coming into play with this purchase is the concern of a “Monopoly” of online advertising.  The fear is that Google will be vertically leveraged with its keyword search ads, Youtube videos and then with DoubleClick’s leadership of banner/video display ads they will leave consumers with no real ability of chose other that those served by Google.

At present Google has 90 percent share of the German, Spain, France and Britain search market.  So basically this type of market power could have a negative impact on diversity on the net.

The funny thing about all of this is Google is actually in a bidding war against Microsoft so what does it really matter who buys it - either the Monopoly software company or the Monoply search engine company!

Mister Wong, Europe’s largest Social Bookmarking portal, soon available in English! Mister Wong was founded in Germany in March 2006 and since then has grown to become Europe’s leading service for Social Bookmarking, attracting more than 2 million visitors.In the last few weeks they’ve successfully launched localized portals in Russian, Chinese, French, Spanish and the launch of the English version is near.

So I have now imported my bookmarks to Mister Wong and also installed the available Wordpress plugin.  The plugin installs a script that allows for provided image, wong it or chose of words in the configure section and places it besides your comment section. I choose (wong it) you will notice it below. 

I’ve also had the opportunity to bookmark a few articles and the process is simple and as opposed to their competitor del.icio.us I think the layout, functionality is far more suburb overall. Be on the look out for the release of Minster Wong English version soon! I forsee that it will by far out perform del.icio.us in the long run.  

I’ve also asked for additional pin sets and t-shirts so if they agree I will be giving them out to top commentators!
